Increased Muscle, Less Pushups

Hello everybody.

I have a somewhat unusual problem. Or at I think it is unusual anyways.
A few months ago I was about to do about 30 pushups at once.
I stopped doing pushups and switched to dumbbell flies, and dumbbell bench press.

I tried doing pushups yesterday, and could only do 19 until I hit the floor. So strange considering I have gained a noticable amount of muscle on my chest, and triceps.
Any theories of how the bloody heck this could be happening to me?

You got better at pushing heavy weight for a short amount of time.

Your ability to push a lighter weight for lots of reps degenerated because it wasn’t maintained.

Now, if you finished off your chest and triceps workouts with a set of push-ups until failure, you would have maintained or even improved your ability to do more push-ups.
