In Iraq, Emo=Dead

In know there are some on here who are not in favor of emo dress, but this seems to be taking things a bit far.

Dressing ‘emo’ in Iraq is getting teens killed

Fourteen Iraqi youths have reportedly been stoned or beaten to death in the last month for dressing “emo.” Shiite militias in Baghdad have labeled the teen trend “Satanism,” and Reuters reports leaflets have been distributed targeting specific teens and promising “We are the Brigades of Anger. We warn you, if you do not get back to sanity and the right path, you will be killed.” The interior ministry denies there is any connection between the violence and the rise of the trendy style of dressing.

I’m surprised they’re only 10 years behind in terms of fashion…I figured there was at least a 30 year gap between North America and the People of the Desert.

Some reports are saying more than 90 have been killed in the past month and a half. Sad as hell that people can’t mind their own business.

Wait till the Skinny Jeans on men style starts they will run out of bullets.

Can you imagine what will happen when they get Mantyhose. They will bomb their own country off the face of the earth.

Are you suggesting something like the pamphlet drops of WWII?

You mean dropping mantyhose instead of phamplets?

Ha!

Who knew cutting yourself could end in death.

Oh, wait.

Seriously. Who would’ve thought that pretending to be brooding and suicidal might make angry and irrational people feel it’s OK to kill you?

Are we SURE they weren’t just trying to be helpful here? They do have a funny way of going about their business, after all.

It’s one of the many crazy aspects of their religion. Damned if you do, stoned if you don’t, I tells ya.

But, seriously, it must be awful growing up in that kind of culture.

They think it is their business.

If they are claiming satanism, they are turning it into a “holy war”.

I think the real question is why would someone risk it? Are they dressing like that as a statement of rebellion?

The whole Emo thing is a statement of Rebellion…a very, very, strange sad statement.

True, but it is not like that just happens there. Look at the current political debates here. A decent portion is some people trying to say what others can do with their bodies. It is wrapped up with saying govt should not spend money on blank but in the end it is about controlling another’s body because they disagree with their choice.

No doubt.
