I'm Perkisizing!

If anyone knows me they know I like to quote movies, a lot  Heavyweights i a movie my brothers and I know every line of. Easily one of my favorite movies.

Movie quoting aside, my original log hit it’s max number of replies last night. It lasted almost 2 years, and I made some decent(ish) progress during that time. But, as always, it’s never good enough. So, here starts the next leg in my journey to becoming a BEAST! I wouldn’t say I’m a PLer, and I’m not a BBer (although I do know I’m going to eventually do both). I just love being in the gym, and getting better at each session.

And here is my most recent training vid from yesterday’s session:

And a lol vid of when I first started training about 2.5 years ago, just to better show the progress I’ve made this far:

Training

I have been training with CT’s methods ever since the original HP Mass article came out and I don’t plan on ever straying from his way of training. I’m currently running an altered version of CT’s HP Mass:

Monday (Upper Boddy: OH Press, Bench, Top-Half Bench from Pins, and Squat)
4 sets of 3, 3 sets of 2, and 1 set of 1 for each exercise.

Tuesday (Upper Body: same as Monday)
2 sets of 3, 2 sets of 2, and 4 sets of 1 for each exercise.

Wednesday (Lower Body: Squat, Deadlift, and one upper body lift)
4 sets of 3, 3 sets of 2, and 1 set of 1 for each exercise.

Thursday (Lower Body: same as Wednesday)
2 sets of 3, 2 sets of 2, and 4 sets of 1 for each exercise

Friday (1 upper and 1 lower lift, usually bench and squat)
4 sets of 3, and 4 sets of 2

Saturday (test day for 1 upper and 1 lower lift)
Work up to a training max for the day. Nothing all out, but get a PR if I can.

Sunday: off, but I’ve been going in and basically doing Friday’s session again.

Supplements
I mainly take only Biotest. But here are my staples

Indigo
Anaconda
FINiBARS
hydrolyzed casein
ElitePro Minerals
Z12 (on weekends when I can sleep in. I have problems staying asleep most nights)
Spike
fish oil (10g a day)
vit D (5,000 IUs at breakfast)
Rhodiola

That’s that. Any questions about anything else, shoot them my way.

Coming from the man who is in the definition of “beast” in the dictionary, that means a lot!

“Off Day”

A) Squat
275 x 3 x 2
285 x 3
295 x 3
315 x 2 x 4

B) Bench (band work between sets)
225 x 3
235 x 3
245 x 3
255 x 3
265 x 2
275 x 2 x 3

NOTES: Felt great today. Squat is starting to feel MUCH better after squatting 7 days in a row (only deadlifted yesterday). I’m going to keep this up. I’m expecting great things

I don’t pay attention to the internet for like 3 weeks and come back to this? Great job bud

Are these vids at your uni’s gym? If so, it makes me sort of pissed at my undergrad’s (another SEC school) lack of awesome gym accessories (e.g. safety bar, chains).

In for gains a large serving of sesssssi.

@mmat: Drop by moar often

@The2Commandments: The cool gym you’re referring to (the one in my video I’m posting now) is a gym on campus used to conduct studies, and hold training classes for KU. It’s not the rec center that everyone goes to. I pay extra to have access to it during the “strength club” times, 4 days a week.

@phlegms: Lol thanks, man!

Upper Body & Squats

A) OH Press
145 x 3, 155 x 3, 145 x 3, 155 x 3
165 x 2, 175 x 2, 175 x 2
185 x 1
^this rep @185 much easier today, I liked the speed

B) Bench
245 x 3, 255 x 3 x 3
275 x 2, 285 x 2, 295 x 2
315 x 1 (paused)

C) Top-Half Bench from Pins
255 x 3, 275 x 3 x 3
285 x 2, 295 x 2, 305 x 2
325 x 1

D) Squat
265 x 3, 275 x 3, 285 x 3, 295 x 3
315 x 2, 325 x 2, 335 x 2 (belt)
345 x 1

NOTES: Squat still needs work, but it is starting to feel much more natural. I’m feeling pretty strong all around right now, and I’ve got a great feeling about my competition a week from Saturday.

The difference in the 2 videos in your OP are insane. Great work, man.

Will be following for motivation, and advice on how to best utilize CT’s methods.

Goddammit… lol. What a killer thread name. So jelly.

And fantastic transformation so far, of course!

Dis gon be good.

@Spidey: Thanks! And don’t hesitate to throw any question you have any here. I’ve been utilizing CT’s methods for a while and think I know a good deal about them so I’ll do my best to help out. I always love to talk training.

@SSC: Haha it was either that, or “Pepper Needs New Shorts!” from Dodgeball. And thanks!

@Jab: I will do my best :slight_smile:

Upper Body 2 and Deadlift

A) OH Press
145 x 3, 155 x 3
165 x 2, 175 x 2
185 x 1 x 4
^wow these were EZ

B) Bench
235 x 3, 255 x 3
275 x 2, 295 x 2
305 x 1, 315 x 1, 325 x 1, 335 x 1 (paused) PR
I did something weird on that PR. I was planning on doing touch-and-go, but decided to pause when it was about a centimeter from my chest lol. It threw me off, but it was still a PR.

C) Top-Half Bench from Pins
255 x 3, 275 x 3
295 x 2, 305 x 2
325 x 1, 335 x 1
315 x 1, 335 x 1

D) Deadlift
365 x 3, 405 x 3
445 x 2, 475 x 2
495 x 1 x 4

Today’s song lol

Awesome thread so far, I’ll definitely be following throughout.

Regarding your set-up for bench, do you go for the style dave tate goes for in “so you think you can bench” ie. shoulder blades together or are you using any of CTs shrugging style? As I gave the traditional PL style another try today and failed miserably as keeps happening when I do try it… but that looks closer to your set-up in almost every aspect and your putting up sweet bench numbers these days. You see, regardless of where my squat and deadlift go, until I sort my bench I have no chance of competing with you

ps. Love that kids song.

@jake: Honestly, I don’t really know what my bench is like compared to others. I focus on rowing myself up to the bar when I set up my arch, drive my lats/traps into the bench, and row the bar out of the racks to start the set.

Lower Body w/ OH

A) Squat
265 x 3, 275 x 3, 295 x 3 x 2
315 x 2, 330 x 2, 345 x 2

B) Deadlift
365 x 3, 385 x 3, 405 x 3 x 2
435 x 2, 455 x 2, 475 x 2
495 x 1

C) Standing OH Press
145 x 3, 155 x 3 x 3

Our Last Night - “Elephants”

Lower Body and Bench

A) Squat
275 x 3, 295 x 3
315 x 2 x 2
345 x 1
365 x 1
385 x 1 x 2
^These were pretty easy today. I think I’m good for 425 at my competition next Saturday

B) Deadlift
365 x 3, 405 x 3
435 x 2, 465 x 2
495 x 1 x 4

NOTES: Squats are getting much stronger. I’m no longer intimidated by 315 lol. Doing more work without a belt has helped a ton.
