I'm Old, Not Obsolete

Wednesday Night Scrimmage - 1 hour

Had a couple of good shifts, but spent a lot of time with my body lagging behind my mind.

Also I really need to turn all the time so I’m facing the puck.

I moved, and went to a different site for the gym I belong to.

This one had a LOT more squat racks, a raised platform and bumper plates!!!

Maybe they will even have GHR station. I need to look.

Weighed in at 208 lbs.

Refereeing - 1 hour
Sunday Night Scrimmage - 1 hour

Refereed a game at one rink, took off my skates and drove to another rink to do the scrimmage. One and half hours between finishing refereeing and starting the scrimmage. Right knee complained a little at the start of the scrimmage, but after a couple of shifts, it was ok.

Skills Camp - 1 hour

Lot’s of shooting drills progressing to passing and shooting drills. Ended with everyone playing against each other cross ice and with 2 pucks. Crazy. Right knee called it quits in the last couple of minutes of the cross ice drill.

Scrimmage - 1 hour

Stuck around to do the scrimmage after. One goal and a couple of assists. Had fun. Right knee still hurt.

Lunch - 2 mile walk - 36 minutes

Wednesday Night Mens Skate - 1 hour

My knees really hurt tonight. Been stressing them since Saturday. We have a 17 yo who skates with us, plays on the Tier 2 travel team out of Omaha, very skilled. My first shift, he picked up the puck behind our net and went out along the boards to look for a pass for the whit side to score. I trailed him and called for a pass back. He never looked back, just threw the puck back to me. I said thank you and did a break out pass.

So the pressing felt too easy, and I realized I was using a Rouge Bella bar… which is only 15K. Threw another 10 lbs on and finished the accessory work.

I’m pretty envious of all your skating and hockey. Do you still use a wood stick? I remember when they were about $4 and about croaked when I saw how much even a wooden stick costs now. I need to get up the courage to go to breakfast hockey they have here. Got some gloves that actually allow my hands to move. Old dried up leather gloves have had it. That 17 year old you’re talking about probably looks like a gazelle on skates. I never was a really good skater but made up for it in effort. Hopefully go public skating Friday night to keep from getting too rusty. Take care and have fun.

Hey, thanks for saying hi!

I use carbon fiber sticks. Usually you can pick one up cheap or find someone who just doesn’t like the one they’re using for free. The last 2 sticks I got were like that.

Yes you’re right about him and the D1 player who skates with us making it look easy. It’s ridiculous watching them go against each other.

You can always work on skating

Wednesday Night Men’s Skate - 1 hour

Knees felt great. Skated the best I have in a long time. My first shot on net was the first goal for the black bench. Made good plays and passes.

It was a good night.

Went to a different skate - 1 hour.

This skate was a lower level skate. with a couple of 20 somethings who thought they were fast. They weren’t that fast. Knees felt really good, ended up playing defense a lot and cutting off the youngsters.

Worked a lot on maneuvering in the corners. These games had a lot of play in the corners and I took advantage of it to practice mohawk turns to get around the players.

Tues Night Skate - 1 hour

Skills camp was on a faster pace, with a lot of qucik passing drill variations, more stick handling, toe drags, and two on two scrimmages.

Did the skate afterwards. knees felt pretty good. Slower group overall then the Wed Night skate. Had fun, got a nice assist.

Welll, with the College World Series going on, we were short bench, As like one skater on the bench each side with five on the ice.

Long, long night. Got a couple of assists. Dis some good defensive plays. Shot down the 17 yo AAA player on one of his breakaways.Could not really do anything against the D1 player from my college in town. Fuck he’s fast.

Quads started cramping with 10 minutes to go in the skate :(.

300 lbs x 3 - went for the 4th but started it too far from my shins.
