Ending up having to work through the evenings for the last couple of days. My knees needed the rest.

I’ll be playing league and refereeing today.

One of the players from the team we play against pulled up alongside my Suburban yesterday and was yelling smack about how we’re going to lose.

Should be a fun game. :slight_smile:

20160814 - Hockey

League game - 1 hour
Refereeing - 1 hour

League game sucked. Lost 0-4. Apparently most of the team went through the Cone of Stupidity. Goalie gave up two goals early in the first period that were easy saves that he just missed. Several people would take 5 minute shifts and be obviously tired and not able to skate, yet would not change. One player on our team lost it and started yelling at us all.

I was half a step off several times on decent goal chances. I need more speed, or just a little better guessing on where the puck is going.

Refereed an ugly novice game. And it was the third game ever for the other referee…

I would have been better off refereeing alone. But as they said in Goon, “You have to be shitty to get better”.

Talked to him on the really bad things he was doing, encouraged him to skate harder and kept the positioning requests really easy on him.

Long day.

Then I must be getting better at many, many things…

Glad to see your back to hockey and lifting in here. About “getting better.” I think that’s the deal with most challenging things where there’s a learning curve. You’re probably going to suck at first, but hopefully you suck a little less next time!

20160821 - Hockey

League game - 1 hour.

Lost 2-4. We scored first, with me screening the goalie from a face off in their end. A couple of defensive breakdowns and we were down 1-3.

We got a short handed goal in the last 5 minutes. Pulled our goalie and the first clear they made went into the net.

Shocking, I received a hooking penalty.

We should have won. We dominated on shots on goal. on the order to 22 to 9.

Awwww man! That stinks. Can’t believe you got a penalty :scream:

Skating Lessons - 1 hour
Wed Night Men’s Skate - 1 hour

Nice to be back in skating lessons.

The scrimmage felt really good. Had a couple of chances for a goal, made some good defense plays. Was able to keep up with a former AAA player who’s 20 years younger then while playing defense.

Knees felt good.

Not a lot of people, so it was 4 on 4.

Fun stuff.

Went to a fund raiser for a guy from my High School class who has ALS.

Won a bottle of Chivas Regal in the raffle.
