Illinois NRA Exec. Letter

October 10, 2008
Fellow Sportsman,

Hello, my name is Rich Pearson and I have been active in the firearm rights movement for over 40 years. For
the past 15 years, I have served in the Illinois state capitol as the chief lobbyist for the Illinois State Rifle
Association.

I lobbied Barack Obama extensively while he was an Illinois State Senator. As a result of that experience, I
know Obama??s attitudes toward guns and gun owners better than anyone. The truth be told, in all my years in
the Capitol I have never met a legislator who harbors more contempt for the law-abiding firearm owner than
Barack Obama.

Although Obama claims to be an advocate for the 2nd Amendment, his voting record in the Illinois Senate paints
a very different picture. While a state senator, Obama voted for a bill that would ban nearly every hunting rifle,
shotgun and target rifle owned by Illinois citizens. That same bill would authorize the state police to raid homes
of gun owners and forcibly confiscate banned guns. Obama supported a bill that would shut down law-abiding
firearm manufacturers including Springfield Armory, Armalite, Rock River Arms and Les Baer.

Obama also voted for a bill that would prohibit law-abiding citizens from purchasing more than one gun per month.
Without a doubt, Barack Obama has proven himself to be an enemy of the law abiding firearm owner. At the
same time, Obama has proven himself to be a friend to the hardened criminal.

While a state senator, Obama voted 4 times against legislation that would allow a homeowner to use a firearm in defense of home and family.

Does Barack Obama still sound to you like a ??friend?? of the law-abiding gun owner?

And speaking of friends, you can always tell a person by the company they keep. Obama counts among his
friends the Rev. Michael Pfleger - a renegade Chicago priest who has openly called for the murder of gun shop
owners and pro-gun legislators.

Then there is his buddy Richard Daley, the mayor of Chicago who has declared
that if it were up to him, nobody would be allowed to own a gun. And let??s not forget Obama??s pal George
Soros - the guy who has pumped millions of dollars into the UN??s international effort to disarm law-abiding
citizens.

Obama has shown that he is more than willing to use other people??s money to fund his campaign to take your
guns away from you. While a board member of the leftist Joyce Foundation, Barack Obama wrote checks for
tens of millions of dollars to extremist gun control organizations such as the Illinois Council Against Handgun
Violence and the Violence Policy Center.
Does Barack Obama still sound to you like a ??friend?? of the law-abiding gun owner?

By now, I??m sure that many of you have received mailings from an organization called ??American Hunters
and Shooters Association(AHSA)?? talking about what a swell fellow Obama is and how he honors the 2nd
Amendment and how you will never have to worry about Obama coming to take your guns. Let me make it
perfectly clear - everything the AHSA says about Obama is pure hogwash. The AHSA is headed by a group
of left-wing elitists who subscribe to the British view of hunting and shooting. That is, a state of affairs where
hunting and shooting are reserved for the wealthy upper-crust who can afford guided hunts on exclusive private
reserves.

The AHSA is not your friend, never will be.
In closing, I??d like to remind you that I??m a guy who has actually gone nose to nose with Obama on gun rights
issues. The Obama I know cannot even begin to identify with this nation??s outdoor traditions.

The Obama I know sees you, the law abiding gun owner, as nothing but a low-class lummox who is easily swayed by the
flash of a smile and a ration of rosy rhetoric. The Obama I know is a stony-faced liar who has honed his skill at
getting what he wants - so long as people are willing to give it to him.

That??s the Barack Obama I know.

Sincerely,
(original signed)
Richard A. Pearson
Executive Director
Illinois State Rifle Association
Open Letter to Sportsmen:10/10/08:page 2

Another item to show his record, but the record does not match the rhetoric of the candidate.

If you value your right to own firearms you would have to be a fool to vote for Obama.

It would be like a chicken voting for
Col. Sanders.

May he taste nothing but bitterness and iron.

Don’t worry Rockscar! Obama is just “pretending” to be anti 2nd amendment! Don’t you know he wouldn’t get votes if he actually admitted to be pro-guns!

Golly you must feel foolish!

Or not for Mccain which would be the same thing.

Indeed

Odd, lately I’ve been getting mailings from an organization called American Hunters & Shooters. They want me to vote for Obama. They told me all the bad things about McCain and guns. They haven’t told me anything about Obama and guns. So I went looking to see who is “American Hunters & Shooters”.

Despite the name, AHSA is a pro-gun control organization.

I’m not buying their advice.

If nobama wins I’m heading to the nearest gun shop and buying an AR-15. If they choose to storm my castle and confiscate it, “they will have to pry it from my cold dead hands”.

No you’re not. If Obama wins you’re going to the nearest gun store and standing in line with a bunch of other dumbasses who don’t know that the gun store owner sold out of AR’s five minutes after the election. And those guys paid double what it cost a week ago. Buy your damn rifle now knucklehead.

I am using my Garand when “they” come for me.

Nice. I have a friend of mine who has been buying lots of Garands from the CMP. I really like the sights. I don’t exactly know why, but that peep sight looks a lot cleaner to me than when I look through my AR.

That said, I keep telling the guy to buy either an AR or an M1A. 30-06 might be a great round ballistically speaking, but you aren’t going to be able to find large amounts of it in one place, which is what you’re going to need for a semi-auto. Lots of people have 30-06, but only in small amounts for their deer rifles.

Ya right. Like a gun ban will go into place immediately after the election.

Thus sayeth obama,“Ban AR’s”, and all obamas people said, “amen”, then stopped selling guns. Is this how you envision it going down? FYI it takes slightly more than that to make laws.

I have more than I could ever hope to use in a “situation”.

My Garand is from the CMP. I suggest you do it, the quality is there and the price is right. Fun gun.

There will be a run on guns and prices will rise. I have seen it before.

And the cheap Greek army surplus .30-06 is drying up. Of course, you can get the Garand in 7.62x51. Springfield Armory and Fulton Armory are the places to go for this. Fulton also will also rebarrel a 30-06 Garand for .308.

If you like the M1, Mike, you’ll love the M14, which is essentially a Garand with an improved gas system and a removable box magazine. The sights on the M14 and the Garand are identical, except that the rear elevation knob on the M14 is gradated in meters rather than yards.

I love the Garand, except for the “clang” of the ejected clip.

Where in that post did I say that there would be an immediate ban on ARs? Jeebus. Shit, my buddy just got his UPPER last week after waiting 6 months! Believe it or not you aren’t the only person with this idea and gun stores don’t have an unlimited supply of rifles.

Eventually they have to send out for more. And by eventually, I mean after the first ten guys walk in the door and buy an AR. I’m giving you some friendly advice, buy your rifle now, cause I’m not handing my extras over.

mike

If you can’t get a whole rifle a cheaper alternative is to buy the reciever then just buy a parts kit.

It’s also a good idea to stock up on high capacity magazines. Because you know they are going to go after those again too.

Interesting note: The new form 4473 has a few new boxes. In addition to long gun or pistol there are now boxes for frames and receivers. Now the .gov knows whether you’re buying an evil black rifle or if you’re just a Fudd.

mike

EDIT: So buy your rifle as a full rifle instead of just a receiver.

I love the clang although it probably isn’t the best thing in a firefight. I tend to avoid those.

Gun sales are up nationwide. Especially assault rifles.

The NRA is putting out a series of commercials to let people know the truth about this turkey.
