Been a while brother. How goes things

#323

Hey man! Great to hear from you. Things have been going well, grad school is about to start. As you can probably tell I’ve been aiming to lose a bit of the extra fat i’ve been carrying. The goal is to maintain a respectable amount of strength and hopefully start training with a sprinting team in september. I just checked your log and you’ve gotten wayyy strong bro. Good stuff!

#324

How much goal weight? All I remember is you being bigger than me, looking smaller than that on camera and having a disproportionally big looking head lol

For me training is good fun. Not on a program. Bench is doing well. Up from poverty though so not saying much. Deadlifts bit stronger. Squats gone to shit RIP

#325

No goal weight in mind but something like 180-185lbs while maintaining a 500+ deadlift would be fine for me right now. Haha as for the big head I’m calling camera angles :p, although my girlfriend tells me I have quite the ego so you may be onto something here

#326

Deadlift
5x5x355 (some sort of 5x5pr) Really fought hard for that last rep, but that’s 2 reps better than last week

Dimel deadlift
3x5x225

#327

What is a dimel deadlift

#328

A dimel deadlift is basically an explosive RDL with a slightly shorter range of motion (bar just below knees). The idea is that reps should be quick and explosive, whereas the RDL is slower and more controlled.

Finally got to train with the sprinting team here. Several of the guys were former D1 collegiate sprinters, and Jesus Christ these guys were fast.

I did my best to keep pace with these guys, and managed to stay within 10m of the fastest guy there. By the 5th sprint my brain felt like it was going to explode but I made it through. Need to get some more water in next time. It was a great experience and I’m going to try to commit to this team. I’m also going to need to drop some weight.

15 minute dynamic warmup
5x100m 90% effort with 30 seconds rest
2x400m easy cool down

#330

It’s been way too long since I last posted here. Classes are really starting to take their toll, but that’s no excuse. Surely I can find 2 days a week to get a quick 45 minute workout in.

On another note I ditched the straps because oddly enough I actually feel that I can get tighter using a mixed grip. Sprinting twice a week with the team is out of the question, as it is a solid 45 minute commute both ways by subway and I simply don’t have the time to commit to that. I’m going to deadlift twice a week (one heavier day on the weekend and one lighter day on wednesday) to try and maintain strength. BW currently at around 190lbs.

Deadlift
2x5x135
5x225
3x275
4x3x315
3x365

Pullups 5x5

Side/rear delt raises
3 supersets

Bicep Curls 3 sets to failure

#331

Really tried to engage the lats during deadlifts rather than slinging myself up as usual. Pulls felt slow but I definitely felt less strain on the back.

Deadlift
5x135
5x225
3x315
5x3x335 (felt difficult)

Dimel deadlifts
2x5x225

Pull-ups
2,4,6,6,4,2 (lats are incredibly sore for whatever reason)

#332

Hey man Good to see you’re still lifting.
Just read that doing both stances would do the favoured lift good.
Heavy day competition lift second light day switch stance.

#333

@mortdk appreciate it man! Glad to see you’re still at it as well.

Had just enough time to get a quick workout in. Weight felt fairly light today.

Deadlifts
5x135
5x225
4x5x315
10x315

5x225
3x275

#338

I’ve realized that I’ve been bracing incorrectly my entire life. Today I tried breathing into my chest more rather than my belly and the difference was night and day. Last week 325 felt like a total struggle and today I could have probably done double the sets easily. I’ve also really tried to focus on bringing the bar as close to my body as possible. Today’s 5x5 felt like rpe 0. I’d like a beltless 375 for 5x5 by the end of December but we’ll see what happens.

Deadlift
2x5x135
5x225
3x275
3x315
5x5x335
1x385
1x435 (had another 30-40lbs I’m guessing based on the grind, didn’t want to go crazy)
5x315 touch n go (felt really really awkward)
5x225 dimel deadlift

#339

?

Aren’t you supposed to fill out your entire lower body with air?

#340

Lol if only I could fill my legs up with air. What I mean is that before I’d concentrate on really doing that “expanded stomach” thing and my upper back would always round like crazy. I focused on breathing more into my chest and my back instantly felt stronger. I don’t know if it works for everyone, it was just pretty amazing to see the immediate difference.
