Hello! I have been lifting semi-consistently for a solid 7 months now. I am a 24 y/o student pursuing a master’s degree at the moment so studies tend to get in the way of recovery and nutrition.
I used to deadlift entirely conventional until I realized I had some serious form issues with it that I felt were unsafe for my spine. I switched to sumo deadlift and I instantly felt that it suited my leverages better. I went from pulling 365 back in june to 435 in august using a mixed grip (grip has never been an issue at this weight).
More recently, I felt that using a mixed grip felt so much more awkward than it did for conventional deadlifts, so I opted for a pair of straps. Due to studies, I can hit the gym maybe once or twice a week. What I’ve been doing each week is working up to a 1rm with sumo once a week, adding 5lbs each workout. That has taken me from 445 to 465 in about 4 weeks. My goal here is to keep progressing in this manner as long as I can to see how long I can keep adding 5lb per workout, but a short term goal would be 500lbs.
My rep scheme for sumo currently looks something like this:
135x5 double overhand (DO)
Max attempt (Straps)
I supplement this routine with weighted pullups, good mornings, facepulls and some core work in the same workout or on a different day depending on how I’m feeling. I don’t use a belt at the moment, but I am considering buying one. I’ll be on this forum mainly to update the log weekly, but yea I’m pretty excited to see how far this goes!
