#281

Nice Deadlifts. We’re going to see Infinity Wars next week.

#282

We ended up seeing Deadpool 2. The other was too full. Deadpool was good though. About my speed for the day.

165-3
195-2x3
210-2x2 add belt

105-4x4

DB Pull overs
40-3x13

Reverse Hyper
240-30
260-30
280-30

Squats felt a bit hard today (Monday). Over the weekend I planted all my vegetables: tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplant, zucchini, bell peppers, hot peppers, lettuce and pumpkins.

We’ll see what works the best. I think we may have too many tomatoes.

#284

One of the great things about being retired is going to the movies on a Tuesday during the day. Saw Infinity Wars yesterday and counting the wife and I there were 5 people in the theatre. Seeing Deadpool 2 next week.

#285

I almost always go to afternoon movies. For some reason I just enjoy them more.

#286

Week 12 Day 2

Paused Bench
45-10
95-3
105-2
115-3x3

TNG Bench
115-4

Squat
45-10
135-2x5
155-4x5

Shrugs
175-3x12

Ring leg raises
3x10

Reverse hyper
150-55

Bench is feeling better and better. It would be lovely to eek out a PR at the meet in July

#287

Week 12 Day 3

Conventional deadlift
135-2x5
220-8x3

Sumo deadlift
135-40 done in 60 seconds. Lock out was absent and reps were bounced off the floor. This was inspired by Frank trying to talk me into trying for a Guinness record. There’s a woman (Thienna Ho) who deadlifted 3,870lbs in 60 seconds. I watched the video and it’s kind of stupid because she did it with 45lbs, 86 reps. She had custom hollow plates and a light bar. She said the total weight was 45lbs. The bar height was like a standard 45lb plate. It seems like 45lbs for 86 reps would be harder than 135lbs for 29 reps which is the equivalent weight. I got 40 reps after regular deadlifting but the idea seems stupid.

Meadows rows
45-12
55-12
60-12

SSB box squat
50-5
150-4x4 These were really hard after the deadlifting fun.

Paused bench
45-10
95-3
110-1
116-1 with signals
121-1 with signals
127-0
This was a competition run; opener, second and third. 121 (55kgs) was my previous best. I think I could get 127 at a meet because there’s more time between attempts and I’m unlikely to do 40 reps deadlift before.

#288

I say you kick her ass! No doubt in my mind you got this.
Hope you get 127 next month. We are all rooting for you. A new PR would be awesome!

#289

Week 13 Day 1

Squat
45-10
135-2x5
175-5
200-2x3 add belt
215-2x2
190-2x3
Things felt tougher than normal today. Fatigue was setting in and when I get tired I squat way too deep. I’m not sure why that is; maybe I just get sloppy.

Swiss Bar Bench
50-10
100-3
105-4x4

DB pull overs
40-3x14

Reverse Hyper
240-30
260-30
280-30

#290

Wow!

#291

It was a fun challenge but the reps were sloppy af.

#292

Week 13 Day 2

Paused bench
45-10
95-3
110-1
120-3x2
These were slow but they are close to my competition max of 55kg (121) so I’m quite pleased with the progress. This is now my planned second.

Squat
45-10
135-2x5
155-4x4

BB Shrugs
173-3x12

Ring leg raises
3x10

We are now half way through our welding course. Much of what we’ve done so far is surface welding. Tuesday night we started t-welds. I was able to tack the ends fine but made a mess of the join. The first weld wasn’t horrible but for some reason I had a hell of a time getting the slag off the weld. The second line ran well away from the join and the third gave me undercut. I’m going to do it over.

I was talking to the instructor about renting space and she recommended just retaking the beginner course and using the time to do my own thing as it works out less expensively. She also recommended a fabricating course that I think I’ll do in the fall.

#293

When I first learned how to use Pimp Daddy’s mig, the grinder and I were best friends! I had to learn to control my speed. Just kept doing it and grinding until I finally got it. The more you do it, the better you will get at it.

#294

Fortunately, my fancy new helmet has a grinder setting on it so it won’t darken up. It seems like my biggest issue is my vision. It’s very hard to see what I’m doing and I feel like I’m guessing where I’m going half the time. As I adjust and move around I find better spots that are easier to see due to back lighting.

I’m also getting more comfortable with the grinder. We aren’t using it on our welds but use it to clean up any spatter on our work surface at the end of the class.

#295

Do you think it’s possible that you need a lighter shade?

#296

I think a lot of it is age and reduced depth perception in dark conditions. I’ve backed into my shed parking at night. I have my lens set at 9-10 which is the lightest for stick. I burned my eyes as a teenager and don’t want to repeat the experience.

#297

I understand that completely. I’m sure Princess Auto sells halogen work lights too!

#298

That’s a good idea too.

#300

Week 13 - Day 2 (Friday night)

Sumo deadlift
135-2x5
225-2
255-1
285-1
300-0 this barely left the floor. I can’t say I’m super surprised. Work was stressful and my lower back already felt lit up from leaning over my drafting table.

DB rows
82-3x14/side

SSB Box squat
50-5
135-3
155-5x3
We weighed the bar. I always thought it was 50lbs. It turns out it’s 52.

Paused bench
45-10
95-3
110-1
116-1 slow and hard
120-0

Ring fall outs/push ups
1x30

Reverse hyper
150-55

I’m feeling a bit worn out lately. Things at work have been busy and stressful. Frank has a meet next weekend and will be doing a pre-meet deload so I’m going to do a mini one myself. My planned weights on bench, squat and deadlift will stay the same but I’ll eliminate all accessory work. Monday and Wednesday are squat and bench only. Friday is deadlift only.
