How to Increase Metabolism?

so what can one do to up his metabolism or speed it up without any pills or supplements.

i know its possible through diet and having six meals a day but can anyone explain how it happens?also is there a special sequence of foods to eat that help in speeding the metabolism up?like as in does the body respond to certain foods at certain points of time during the day?

any other method to speed it up?

thanks in advance.

The “easiest” way to increase your metabolism is to increase your lean muscle mass. The more muscle you have on your body, the more calories you’ll burn when you’re not exercising and the more calories you’ll be able to eat without getting fat (very basically).

Frequent, smaller meals also increase your metabolism a bit, especially if they’re relatively-high in protein, since the body has to “work harder” to process/digest calories from protein, compared to calories from carbs or fat.

Actually there is more and more evidence showing that the spacing of the calories throughout the day doesn’t increase metabolism. It will stabilize many of the hormonal levels (insulin etc.), but not necessarily increase how hard your body has to work to assimilate the ingested calories. Increasing lean body mass (muscle), increasing calorie content of your meals, and increasing the amount of protein you consume will all help increase your metabolism.

If you increase the overall number of calories in an intelligent manner this will help two fold. First your body will have to work harder to assimilate all the additional nutrients you are now consuming. Second, increased calories + lifting will increase the amount of muscle mass that is on your body, thus also increasing your calories.

Research that has found that consuming more protein in a diet (at least 30%) increases the thermogenic response by your body. which basically means your internal body temperature gets warmer because it has to work harder to digest the protein you have consumed. So the harder your body has to “work”, the more calories its burning.

Combining all three of these things will certainly increase your metabolism by a great deal.
