A snatch or clean pull is different from a snatch or clean high pull. A sn or cl PULL is done with straight arms, i.e., you do not bend them other than the very little flexion you will get from the force generated by the pull.
A cl or sn HIGH PULL is done with a bend in the arms, and obviously, you pull higher…Cleans to sternum, snatch to chest (roughly).
As someone said, they can be done from the hang, the floor, off of blocks, or off pins in the rack.
