Careful. I can see Pookie having a field day with this one.

Anyway, let me say that I love chiquitas.

I was being sarcastic. of course the do not deserve it and someone should go in and kick that bastard out. But that is what we have done in Iraq and are hated for it.

People say we should butt out, sort of like China does…except they forget China does sell weapons to openly genocidal countries like Sudan.

What do you think should be done in Zimbabwae? What is your take on the situation?

I have no idea. I would probably just wait.

Youre over simplifying it. I dont think anyone hates US for getting rid of saddam.
Well at least anyone outside his baath party and family.
In fact most of the world was happy that he was overthrown,or did you hear anyone complaining about it?

Yeah, look around just about every thread in this section. I’m sure you’ll find one person or another complaining about it.

He would have gone for one billion.

You are now approaching one trillion and hundreds of thousands of live.

I know that in Amerika everything is black and white, but in moral relativist Europe ,we do not only have shades of grey, but a whole set of colors.

Yup, letting other people suffer and die for you is incredibly brave.

What? Bill O’reilly doesn’t speak fact? I saw Steven Colbert the other night, ands he says Fox is all right and O’reilly is cool, so they must be.

Imagine if you bought a piece of raw land in Mexico, built a nice home there (all legal and stuff), then the government confiscated it in the name of Mexico. “Well, this land is in Mexico so it belongs to us!”

But what if I stage a coup, install a puppet regime who then owes me big, so it gives me half a national park for free and doesn’t tax me as long as I send a few bribes over from time to time…

The people then notice that I’m basically stealing their resources, polluting their environment, using sweat shop labor as much as I can… basically taking as much as I can, for as little as I can.

Maybe they get pissed and revolt, overthrow my puppets and install a more or less savory figure as long as he promises to take back their resources from me.

Could you really complain about all your stuff “being stolen” by the evil dictator/ruler/despot/etc when you were basically doing the same thing to them before?

Yes, he could.

The whole point of his and Zaps logic is that history starts when the US are reasonably upset.

WWII without WWI, Iran now, without Mossadegh and operation Ajax, 9-11, without a century of intervention in the ME…

It is hard enough to shoulder the white mans burden, without too much historical knowledge to drag you down.[/quote]

It is people lik eyou that ignore history. What came before Mossadegh, etc? Why did the USA do what it did?

You always want to start history at a certain point but refuse to look at what came before.

Before Mossadegh came a unruly time were assassination happened quite frequently.

That does not justify the installation of a dictatorship though, unless of course the US deserved one after the assassinations of the Kennedies, Martin Luther King and Malcolm X.

The USA did what it did because of the bogeyman of their time and at the same time creating the bogeyman of our time, you know the unknown half-human enemy abroad that justifies the existence of the MIC, keeps the voters distracted from domestic problems and makes it possible to turn democracy in an Orwellian police state in the name of freedom.

Because I know history quite well I know that this happened again and again and again and people aways fall for this schtick.

“Naturally the common people don’t want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY.”
