How Much is Your Gym Membership?

Just curious what everyone pays and how much variation there is.

Also, how much would you be willing to pay for the optimal gym and what would that look like to you?

$50 dollars a month. Open 24/7 with pool and basketball courts.

$20/month.

I pay $49/mo, but would be willing to pay up to $85 for the optimal gym.

Optimal gym would have extended hours or key card access and no wait for squat racks.

$50/month

40

$25 a month for 24 Hour Fitness.

I have been able to just walk in them in several states, enter my member number and scan my finger print, and off to lift.

Mine is a shade under $2,000 a month. Plus there are a ton of fees, like electric, cable, etc… Plus one of the gym co-owners is always getting me to help out around they gym. You know cleaning, mowing the grass, and other stuff. I think I’m getting shafted…

Rumor is you’re sleeping with one of the owners…you’d think she’s cut you a break on membership dues.

Free, since I work there ::slight_smile: But for a 1-yr membership, the monthly payments look like 38$.

That’s what I’m sayin. She’s a ruthless business woman though!

Free gym, provided by work

I’d pay up to $50 a month for a gym that met my requirements if I decided to change. Any more than that and I’d look into a garage gym

$25 / month, It’s a student rate which is good. It’s only got one power rack though but I seem to be one of only two guys who actually use it so it works.

$24 per month for me and the missus - Worlds Gym, no racquet courts, no tennis, no sauna, no pool, no hottub, no nekkid old men blow drying thier ballsacks, no tarts in yoga pants looking for attention.

we do have our share of douchbags and talkers, and HS Bro Squad - but all in all, it’s weights and sweat.

just like I likes it~

Either that or your are shitty in bed…

I always pay up front for the year. I think I paid a total of about $220 this time around, so less than $20 a month. This is at 24hr. I rarely have to wait long for a rack so I get by fine there. Only two complaints would be the hexagonal plates and that their squat rack isnt adjustable so I can’t actually squat inside it. Power rack is fine though.

(Scratches head) Well that certainly can’t be it.

I pay $9.97 per month. No idea how they came up with that price. I also talked them into giving me a free month since I brought a buddy with me. Membership came with a free t-shirt too. It’s not a great gym by any means- bunch of douchebags walking around but I rarely have an issue getting in on the racks or bench so it works for me for now.

My amount that I would be willing to spend changes. Right now I’m trying to cut back expenses so I’d say this is optimal. Once I get my affairs in order I would be willing to pay about $35 for a decent place and $65 for the badass place. The badass place is also a little farther so I have to factor that in but the experience with those guys would be well worth the price. I can still drop in for a undetermined fee there tho…

EDIT: Forgot to answer the second part. Ideal gym, like the badass place I referenced- has multiple racks, possibly a monolift, multiple benches, inclines, DBs up to 200, atlas stones, axles, logs, tires, sled/prowler and room to use, bumper plates, chin station, etc. Pretty much what everyone imagines a bad ass gym to have…

Simple question, complicated answer.

The University opened a new, approximately $83 million facility 1 block from my office. Weights, pool, BB courts, indoor track, sauna, hot tub, steam room, kiddie pool, climbing wall, lazy river (a lazy river for god’s sake). 12 squat racks, 12 bench presses, 12 rubber dead lifting areas, rubber bounce plates, every cable machine and Hammer strength machine imaginable in duplicate, 12 chin bars, rings, rubber straps, dumbbells up to 125 pounds, upwards of 40 treadmills, 40 stationary bikes, 40 ellipticals, and a few stair climbers and “ski” machines – real nice. Only downside, opens at 5:00 AM, and closes at 11:00 PM

$15/month if you go at least twice per month ($30/month of you don’t go at least twice) – for University employees and staff. I decided I must be crazy not to take advantage of that – it is so close, and soooo cheap (typical gym membership in this area is ~$35 to 45 per month, at Golds’ or 24-hr Fitness).

However, since it is a University gym, 95% of the patrons are 19 to 22 year-old college kids. I didn’t want to be the creepy, old, overweight guy trying to get back into lifting. So I joined a local “towny” gym for $25/month (interestingly, they lowered the rates from $45/month after the new University gym opened). In addition, with the new gym opening, the “old” gym had low traffic. So I paid $25/month, for an “old” gym that was 4 blocks from my office until I felt that I was sufficiently fit to go into the “new” gym, that was closer, cheaper and nicer. There must be something wrong with me.

It took 6 months. First time I worked out in the new gym, I never went back to the “old” gym. The new gym is intolerable from about 3:30 PM - 7:00 Pm – because of the traffic – but outside of those hours – it is really awesome. I can work out those hours, but I don’t like to – too much waiting.
