How Many Calories Are Too Much?

hi,

110 lbs bodyweight
5 meals
4000 calories

i just started this diet
and i want to know if its dangerous for a guy my size me to eat this much?
it is not comfortable at all either.

when you boil 100g of that pasta it becomes size of half a basketball. by the time i get to my 5th meal, it feels like food is coming outta my ears. feels like my body’s saying “STOP YOU IDIOT”. i have to bend my waist forward so it has more space. and i look like i am pregnant at night

protein source: pasta and protein powder
carb: pasta
fats: flax caps, fish caps, lecithin caps, sunflower seeds

carb 54%
fat 24%
protein 22%

sure, i gained 3 lbs in 1 day measuring from morning to morning, but this sucks, i feel so uncomfortable most of the day, and every time a meal comes its like “oh no its time”. i could puke anytime.

Questions:

  1. so do i have to keep this up? i would be happy to slow it down and get results slower.
  2. would that much fat be harmful for my liver?
  3. does anything else seem wrong to you guys?

consider my size, and the fact that i prefer safety first

alot seems wrong,

you are 100lbs how much where you eating beforehand? you might be able to gain with a lot less calories, if you cant gain any weight with anything less than 4,000 calories becuase your metabolism is super high than well thats what you have to do. Why so many carbs and so little protein?

Why do you list pasta as a protein source? Are you a vegan? Why not eat some damn steak?

There is no magic # of calories you need to gain weight, hell when I first started bulking my diet was 2,500 calories, and weighed more than you, as my metabolism and muscle mass increased I had to increase the calories up to 5,200 to break 200lbs.

Hope this helps

i was eating what was comfortable before, but alot less.
if i have to do this for a long time, i might not have the sanity to keep it up. i un-swallowed a flax cap yesterday.
pasta has a few grams of protein. im not a vegan, steaks and chicken take too long to digest as i won’t be able to get the next meal in time. protein drink and pasta because they go down smoothly

any advice to make this process more comfortable? i know “no pain no gain” but this is ridiculous and i don’t know if i can keep this up

A) try to do more meals.

B) Less carbs, more protein and fat.

Simply add ground beef to you pasta.

Have a BIG breakfast and go wild with eggs and bacon.

If it is not obvious, fat is more calorie dense than protein or carbs and I think you want to keep it cheap.

ok yeah, dont eat meat, have fun gaining with that…
You eat 5 times a day, how long between meals?

I eat 8 times a day and still eat plenty of meat, the problem is you jumped full bore into this, your body is in shock. It is not used to this much food, I also have a felling you are eating an insane amount of pasta, why?

Sorry bud but pasta is not a major source of protein, there is very little protein in pasta compared to carbs, pasta is a source of carbs.

How many grams of protein are you getting every day?

Why is your diet 55% carbs?

Show meal for meal a sample diet

I can eat 5,000+ calories a day and it not seem like I am going to die, why? I didn’t just start eating 5,000 calories right off the bat. My body got used to it as I gradually increased calories as needed.

to get calories in eat calorie dense food

Almonds, Walnuts, put extra virgin olive oil on your foods.

Eat liquid meals 1 serving of Metabolic Drive complete and 20 ounces of milk is 700 calories and more than 60grams of protein .

Make 1000 calorie shakes, mix milk, oatmeal, fruit, protein powder, fats in a blender and chug. There is some threads on here about different recipes do a search, they are easy to get in a good 800-1200 calories and can taste damn good to.

Drink an extra glass of milk or two with meals

Stick with it, your body will get used to all the calories and start using them to add slabs of meat to your frame. Its just a big change you have to get used to.

Also BE CONSISTENT it doesn’t matter at all if you eat 4,000 calories today, tomorrow and than barely eat for a day or two, you have to get the food down, day in day out.

Also listen to people that have accomplished what you are trying to do and learned the hard way, it will save you a lot of time and mistakes.

Just Squat

i don’t think i need THAT much more protein.
for guys like me with no body fat, i would love to consume more.
but wouldn’t bacon kill my heart?
egg white is too hard to digest, and i get diarhea reaction if i have fruits with it
milk and red meat has too much saturated fats.

one item i do have is sunflower seeds, low saturated fat
does anyone have others?

Protein from pasta is incomplete protein.

If the excuse is that you don’t have time to digest then don’t eat less than 4000 calories, even 3000 would be a good start for someone around 100lbs… You need meat in your diet, you can’t just eat pasta and take protein powder.

also 3lbs gained from one day, most of it is going to be fat, you can’t gain that much muscle in one day even if you were using steroids.

Read up on some articles here about nutrition.

First of all, there may be “too much” saturated fats, but there is also “not enough” saturated fats for maintaining a decent T-level.

I never wrote egg whites, I wrote eggs. Yes, that means yolk included. Maybe throw some milk in there too.

Stop being afraid of fats and by the way to many carbs lead to diabetes and too much protein destroy your kidneys according to some people.

So you are going to die, no matter what you do ;-)…

Seriously though, most people die because they do not move enough and are overweight, not because they have the wrong CPF percentage.

If you are younger than 20, hell, 35 this discussion is academic anyway.

Nothing like jumping in with both feet.

The reason why you are not comfortable is because you didn’t step up gradually, you jumped right in.

You don’t need that many carbs - lose most of the pasta, add lots of meat and eggs.

Yes, bacon will kill your heart, and pasta, and alcohol, and breathing…

Anytime you eat more than you have been, there is a period of time where your body needs to rev up the metabolism to move it faster. By going from normal to 4000 cals, you made a common mistake: moving too fast towards a goal. Your body has responded with a wtf.

The best fix is to go back to the meal frequency you were using and add one meal per day. Add protein and reduce some of the carbs. See what that does over two weeks. Add another meal in a couple weeks, try to add 1-2 pounds per week, not per day.

If this is a race, it is a marathon, not a dash.

Good Luck.

This almost feels like a troll job…

Look, you are in the midst of a lot of nutrition mythology which is just going to hold you back.

In general, if you are healthy, natural foods, including eggs, fats, meats and so forth are great for you.

However, you need to be working out so your body will be able to make use of everything. Sedentary people are much more prone to be unhealthy, and they blame the food instead of the fact that they aren’t using their muscles regularly.

Anyway, picking a random number of calories, especially at your weight, is not a good idea. Figure out what you have been eating, in terms of calories, then up it by 250 per day. If you don’t start gaining after a week, do that again.

This isn’t a race and very fast gains will lead to more fat gain than you will like.

Well it seems you know everything so have fun with that.

Why listen to what everyone is telling you. who have made significant gains in muscle mass by eating red meat, WHOLE EGGS, etc but you seem to have this secret combination of pasta and sunflower seeds so rock on.

im not one of those ectomorphs who come to this forum just to complain bout how hard it is to gain weight, get bitched at, and stop trying

i try and i listen. and thats what makes me different from them.
i will cut the pasta down and add chicken.

eggs with (apples, pears) or any fruit of that texture cause diarhea for me. i stopped eggs because half a dozen came back out because i forgot and ate fruit. it was no picnic and thats why i stopped. does any1 else have this problem?

i am lactose intolerant, so i should invest in lactase and go for milk? or is retraining myself to be tolerant a better solution

It sounds like you have “food issues” or “bowel issues”. As well as everything else you need to figure out what, if any, these things are and work around them.

Let me ask you a question. Why are you adding chicken and not beef? If you are sitting around afraid of eating fat…

thanks guys for all the suggestion.

i have cut it down to 3200 and its not too bad, i can defintely keep this up.

i will add milk and meat.
just googled “egg and apple”, its a synergistic allergy reaction that cause the diarrhea. so i can’t have them in the same meal.
i will add egg and hopefully don’t forget about my allergy because it really damages my stomach.

one more question,
what caloric ratio should i have?
i know its different for everyone, but since you guys were completely puzzled, i figure its completely off.
got any suggested ratios?

troll job for sure but it did spark some good posts.

Assuming you aren’t a troll (and I don’t think so, but then my radar may be broke), my tip would be:

Liquid meals.

They get digested a lot faster, leaving you feeling much less bloated, and able to eat again, sooner.

Instead of milk, try rice milk or oat milk.

I have 2 different liquid meal recipies, which I am going to share with you now…

Meal 1 - is a more refreshing and fruity drink. I drink this as my morning meal and also post training.
Take a blender. Add frozen dark berries (ag blueberries, blackcurrants), oats (that have been presoaked in applejuice overnight to hydrate them), applejuice (low GI than other juices), 2 scoops of vanilla whey, 5g BCAA.

Blend, drink, enjoy.

Meal 2- a bit ‘heavier’ and more milky than meal 1. I drink this as a mid-morning stopgap, or as a pre-workout carb/protein boost.

Take a blender. Add oats (presoaked as above), oat/rice milk, 2 scoops of whey and 1 orange probiotic yoghurt drink.

Blend, drink,… you get the picture.

Bush,

I’ve seen you recommend the “soak oats in apple juice and yogurt” various times throughout the years here. I was wondering where you got this idea from. Is there an actual advantage to using the apple juice in combination with the oats, other than extra carbs and low GI? I know the yogurt is primarily to neutralize the phytic acid. Thanks.

P.S. Without trying to sound too E-Mag, you’ve always been one of my favorite posters here, one of the few who always has something positive and/or constructive to say. Thanks for that.
