How Do You Define Yourself?

Hi everyone! I’m new to the forums (Ive only made one or two posts before)and I was curious what everyone’s political leanings are. Forgive me if this has been brought up before.

I guess I’ll start…

I consider myself a classical liberal (or libertarian). I generally dont like government but I accept the fact that it is necessary to some extent. I believe that the federal government of the United States has overstepped its Constitutional boundaries in just about every aspect and I fear it is only going to get worse.

I voted for Bush not because I agree with him on everything (or most things for that matter), nor do I think he has done a very good job thus far, but the prospect of John Kerry as president just didnt sit well with me (I also live in California so its not like my voting for Bush made any difference).

So, what about the rest of you? The last board I frequented had a lot of conservatives, libertarians, liberals, and even a few socialists/communists.

i guess im a conservative. inasmuch as i’d rather conserve the country than give her away or liberate her.

Are you brain-dead? You listed two compelling reasons NOT to vote for Bush, yet provide the most dim-witted excuse possible to vote for him.

Bush is against all views of the libertarian movement. Stop watching Fox News and listening to Limbaugh.

Welcome to T-Nation.

I’m a right-wing conservative republican.

Thank you for the rude comments. They are always appreciated [/sarcasm]

Welcome, LBRTRN

I’m opposed to “liberal” attempts to use the government to regulate my buying practices, by imposing tariffs on certain goods & industries. I oppose this kind of regulation not because I think that all goods & industries are equally wonderful, but because I believe that I ownmyself, and should be allowed to buy what I like, based on my own beliefs and values. If that means buying fair-trade coffee at the local co-op grocery store, or MAG-10 then that’s great-just as long as I don’t use the government’s power to force other people to do the same.

But I’m opposed to “conservative” attempts to use the government to regulate morality, by imposing laws that restrict my behavior on the Sabbath, or at the pharmacy or so called pro-hormones, steroids or any other drugs for that matter, or in the bedroom. I’m opposed to these kinds of legal restrictions not because I think that all lifestyle choices are equally worth pursuing, but because I believe that I own myself, and I should be allowed to decide how to live my life as I see fit, so long as I’m not hurting anyone else in the process.

Hi LBRTRN,

I’m a supporter of the German green party. That makes me an animal that doesn’t really fit into the American system: I am socially liberal (pro gay marriage, mostly pro choice), internationalist (pro UN, EU and NATO, anti-Iraq-war), economically I support social market capitalism (free markets with some restrictions to ensure basic social standards), environmentalist and I have the strong view that religion and state should be strictly separated (especially in schools). Hell, I am a heart-bleeding liberal.

Thoughtful post. I’m a brain dead idiot because I voted for the lesser (though not by much) of two evils, IMO? Let me guess, you’re one of those tollerant “liberals” I’ve been hearing so much about, aren’t you? Are you now going to lecture me on how John Kerry is a bastion of libertarian philosophy?

So please, in your infinite wisdom, who should I have voted for (and dont say Badnarik)? Neither of the major candidates is going to govern in any way even resembling the libertarian ideal. At least I know Bush wants to cut taxes (and hopefully simplify the tax code)and partially privatize social security.

Oh, and thanks for opening my eyes, I’ll be sure and stay away from Fox and Limbaugh.

Isn’t there a fine, or something, for this kind of talk?

makkun-

German Green Party, huh? It sounds pretty similar to the American Green Party (from what little I know of it). I assume you live in Germany but are you familiar with the Green Party over here?

Thanks for the greeting everyone!

While I am a republican, I cannot say that I agree with all of the republican ideologies. There are some issues where I am actually quite liberal.

I’m a charter member of the highly organized anarchy party…

I’m every bit as conservative as ZEB is liberal.

LBRTRN,

Welcome to the forum!!!

I’m a Republican.

To steal Descartes’ phrase: “I think, therefore I am.”

ILOVEGEORGEWBUSH1 (RSU),

Are you coming around?

Tired of losing?

Good deal!!!

JeffR

I forgot the love that I have for my conservative friend, Rainjack.

I also love my not so angry friend, OuBobCatlifter.

Finally, I love my angry, leftist friend, Zep795 (I don’t buy the “I’m cool because I’m different/libertarian” bit)

Thanks!!!

JeffR

Please note that this is not a Republican vs Democrat vs Whatever-the-fuck issue. I think Washington Democrats are gutless SOB’s.

However, it is painfully obvious that Bush is one of the least intelligent people in America, born with a silver spoon, and a drunk. He does not deserve to have children, much less run this great land.

That was actually very funny! Thanks for the laugh. However, I am liberal on certain issues, which I have not discussed on this forum, as yet…

Oboffill is making his bid for “bitterest little man of the week”.

Damn right I’m bitter. Little? Hardly, little describes the minds of millions of other sheeple in this country, not me. Sorry. Try again, asshole.
