Home Stretch of NFL 2008

These last few weeks of NFL action are going to be great. Tight races in the NFC North, South and the AFC North and East. A really competitive Rookie of the Year race - tons of great rookies, including 2 great QBs in Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco. I can’t think of a season where there’s been two rookie QBs as good as these two. There is also next week’s clash in Giants Stadium where the Panthers will go in to try and “steal” the No.1 seed everyone thought the Giants had wrapped up.

There is serious drama playing out in Dallas and New York, 2 of the NFL’s storied franchises (not to mention the largest and 5th largest media markets).

Speaking of my Giants, I believe that Pinhead Plaxico cost us a repeat. I’m a paranoid and pessimistic fan to begin with, and now I just don’t see how we can win it again.

I’ve been freaking out for the last 3 weeks at how bad Brandon Jacobs has looked since he hurt his knee. All I keep thinking about was how Bill Parcells, a god in the eyes of Giants fans, said he had studied NFL history and would never invest in a 240+ lb running back. How Parcells said that only 2 huge running backs have had more than 1 good season : Jerome Bettis, who had a long, consistent career, and Christian Okoye (who only had 2 good seasons).

The one thing that’s been assuaging my fears were these 2 things: we still have Ward, Bradshaw and Droughns in the backfield, and we have probably the deepest receving corps in the league with a top-5 receiver in Plax, old reliable Amani Toomer who can still bring it, Steve Smith in the slot (who’s probably one of the best slot receivers in the game), Domenik Hixon who’s made big plays when counted on, and 2 high draft picks in Moss and Manningham sitting on the bench.

The key to the receivers though is Plax. Without him, nobody needs to be double covered. Now that he’s out, teams will constantly copy the Eagles and bring 8-9 guys in the box b/c they know the Giants love to run. Now, if we had Jacobs at 100%, I’d still say bring it on, bitch.

But with Jacobs hurt, I don’t like our chances. Everything falls on the Giants passing game and Eli. It worked last year, but we had Plax. Now? We’re toast.

In fact, I WANT the Carolina Panthers to win the No.1 seed in the NFC. This way, if the Giants and Panthers both win their first playoff game, the NFC title game will be in Carolina. This is good b/c a) the Giants are road warriors and b) if we need to pass 40 times in a game, I’ll take Charlotte in December, which is 644 miles south of Giants Stadium (yes, I looked it up). Less wind, higher temperatures.

As for the Cowgirls, I think they’re done. Without Barber, and with the infighting, they can’t win. This is the time of the year where teams who succeed bond together and do whatever it takes to win.

Sorry man, I don’t currentlyhave the capacity to go point-by-point analysis of all of your points, (and will get around to it later tonight,) but I will say that the Ravens/Steelers game is going to be brutal next Monday.

Unfortunately for me, I’m a Packers go so the season’s pretty much over for me. I hope I see some good, smash-mouth winter NFL football from here to the rest of the season.

Also a Packers fan. What a let down. And my roommate is a Bears fan, so now I have to listen to his bullshit.

Both conferences are pretty wide open, but I’m sure it’ll end up being two teams I hate like Steelers vs. Giants.

Ravens/Steelers play tomorrow…er…I mean today. More than likely it’s going to be all about turnovers and who can keep their QB upright.

Wish I wasn’t out of the country for that Giants-Panthers game. Could be a great one.

Dolphins Vs Jets Nuff Said

P.S GO DOLPHINS!!

P.S.S Thanks for Chad Pennington Jets

LOL

Don’t be too happy though. The reason the Jets got rid of him was b/c he couldn’t take them past a certain level. Very good player, yes. Is he a winner? Yes? Is he a championship caliber QB? Nope. He’s been great for a rebuilding franchise though.

This begs another question: who will win Coach of the Year? So many deserving candidates in ATL, Miami, Arizona…you could even make a case for Coughlin and Belichik for succeeding despite losing some of their best players. Baltimore’s winning with a rookie QB and rookie head coach…

Can’t believe I’m saying this but GO DOLPHINS!

I think my Pat’s have no better than a 0.3% chance of winning the superbowl this year with the defense in shambles.

Although I shouldn’t be making excuses because their highly touted front 7 (especially the 3 on the line) have underperformed greatly this year. For the most part only Wilfork, Mayo, and to a lesser extent Warren (when healthy) have been the only consistent players on the team. Although I’ve never seen Wilfork pushed around like he was on the first 2 drives last game so I hope he isn’t hurt too badly.

Wait the phins aren’t playing the jets like i thought

So fuck the dolphins

I’m in no way calling Pennington a championship QB, but don’t sleep on him. I know the NFL is a “What have you done for me lately” league, but I’m astounded about how many people forgot about Pennington’s real talent. He had a great run in New York until his injuries started piling up. The Jets had a losing culture, and Pennington needed a kickstart in the ass.

This isn’t even a debate - Mike Smith or Tony Sparano.

I would like to see The Giants loose tonight to help The Panthers with that #1 playoff spot. But I think I would rather see The Cowboys loose and knock them out of the last wild card spot.

either way I win tonight =)

LoL, if there are two and there can be only one, then wouldnt that make it a debate?

Now the Titans are missing Haynesworth and Vandenbosch, their 2 best d-linemen.

Giants and Titans are seeing their seasons slip away b/c of injuries.

Read that the pats can technically be 11-5 and still miss the playoffs!!! Damn that would suck!

Now they HAVE to be 11-5 in order to have a chance with the Ravens lowering the curtain on Texas Stadium last night.

Oh, sorry about that. Actually, not really…haha!

Now if Baltimore or Miami lose next week and the Pats win they are in.

Hey jet fans… guess who’s coming to the meadowlands and taking you out from the playoffs?

Haha, I suppose. I guess I meant “no debate” between just those two, opposed to some other coaches that have been named.
