Home Gym - Post a Picture

Mine is a Home Gym, but its not HOME gym…

Me and a couple of friends were sick of being pestered by the employees at the commercial gym here, not being allowed to use chalk, to do Oly lifts, not even having a power rack or a squat rack, so we left all that behind us. We then started a strength/power lifting/oly lifting club in a tiny bomb shelter in the basement of our university.

All of us studying Industrial mechanical engineering, it wasn’t really a problem to produce what little equipment we needed. Welded up a Power Rack, a prowler, a dip rack, weight racks, made a simple lifting platform. All from metal and materials that were donated to us, or given to us as payment for a bit of manual labor.

Its completely free to join us, and use our equipment, but out of 1800 students, we are only 5 who actually do!

Home made prowler. Man do we get a lot of weird looks pushing this thing back and forth the parking lot outside the college!

Weight rack, Oly DBs, and not included in the pick, 3 pairs of Rogue HG Collars. Best investment you can make if you have adjustable dumbbells. Durable, secure, and most important, quick and easy to use.

And out great wall of inspirational personalities!

Nice! Wish I knew how to weld!

You don’t have to be a student, but its inside the school, so if you dont have an access card, you cant use it after 15:30… we’re located waaay up in Narvik Nordland

Wow yeah thats a little bit too far to travel from Ålesund for a workout ! Cool gym tho

Wow defiance, it looks like yall did a fine job on that rack and prowler. How many hours did that take?

The prowler took maybe 2 hours, where one hour was spent rifling though piles of scrap metal, looking for square tubing. We used all the good metal making the rack.

The rack I’m not sure about. It required a lot of metal, so in order for the school to just give it to us, we had to do it correctly. We spent several hours making 3D models, and then making stress calculations. Once that was done, the production itself was pretty easy. Was ready after two afternoons of cutting, welding and endless drilling. Oh the drilling!

The thing that took the longest was that damned platform. 1" reinforced rubber mats are a bitch to cut!

I feel it’s time to show off my gym:

Bands, suits, shirts, sleeves, and onlt God knows what else is buried in there

Membership gives you access to the library. These are the most important peices of equipment in the gym.

Other than Craigslist, does anyone know of a good site(or offsite) to find cheap equipment? Most stuff I find on craigslist so far has been cheap Sears or Walmart crap. [/quote]

Check legendfitness.com. Not exactly cheap but far more affordable than most for very high quality equipment.

Thought I would share this with some of yall who are on a tight budget. The is a very small list of strength items I would purchase from Walmart but this is one of them. The brand is decent and the handles have been tested to hold up to 150lbs. My buddy has used them for alil over a year for training and hasnt had any problems.

Hey everyone, here is my MeatHead Cave!

I’m relocating soon, and I’ve already lined up some training partners who compete Pro/multiply. I messaged one of them last night, as they had recently been kicked out of the gym in town, asking if they had found a place yet. This is an excerpt from his response.

“I may have found a place to rent here in town, and we are going to put our own stuff in it, so no more commercial gym hassles. I have made a deal w/ Montreal Barbell and we will have a monolift there and possibly a real metal militia bench. Going to borrow some stuff from my buddy and the rest we will have to build up as we go, I have some bars myself, safety squat and cambered bars, and 240lb chain, bands etc. going to try to get this set up ASAP”

Needless to say, I can’t wait. Pictures to follow in the near future.

Pictures werent all taken at the same time, we’ve had to move some things around when we got the mono and bench. Some cool toys that arent pictured are our GHR, 45 degree extension, Safety Squat Bar and Cambered Bar. I’ve got lots of pics and vids of the gym up in my training log, and if you guys are so inclined, you can ‘like’ my teams page on facebook! ( were trying to drum up some support, it’d really help us out)
