What exactly is hip extension? I think I have a basic idea, but i was reading about how step ups involve hip extension and i can’t see exactly where that happens. Do most all free weight leg exercises involve hip extension?
its when you pull your upper thigh backwards (ie when gluts/hammie contract)
Good Mornings, Stiff-leg Deadlifts, and Reverse Hyperextensions are all great examples of hip extension. Hip flexion is the opposite, as in a leg raise or a hanging knee raise.
So when you push up from a box during a step up, hip extension occurs? I knew that good mornings and reverse hypers involved hip extension obviously, but I never thought about some other exercises. What leg functions do regular lunges work?
