Hindu Squats & MMA

Do any of you find hindu squats valuable for conditioning work, or do you find it inferior to ‘newer’ ideas such as interval training, etc.?

Is that it?

Whats the point of the arm flailing?

Is the arm flailing what makes it not just a regular bodyweight squat?

I don’t know wtf this video is, but the weighted stick move looks like it would be tough.

Looks like modified yoga, or maybe this is where yoga came from?

Something about that doesn’t seem good for knee health…

Its for people that are too hardcore for bodyweight squats. Hardcore people don’t care about health!!!

Hindu squats… not for the medium-core!

I tried these once. They hurt my knees so I stopped.

Hindu squats are a bit of a gimmic they’re not magical. Like anything else you can adapt and you don’t need to do 20,000 or whatever matt furey-esque numbers someone quotes.

that said macebells are the shit (the weighted stick thing) but again its like anything else. Adapt, overcome, adjust.

The arm flailing is like kipping with your pullups its supposed to add momentum.

Btw, the on your toes thing. not great for your knees.

If you want to get tired I can come up with about 200 exercises off the top of my head (and id only stop out of boredom) but that doesn’t mean they’re magical or some shit.

Jump Squats 30seconds, deck squats 30seconds (similar but with flat feet)… repeat for 6 min if you can even last that long.

Or do my personal favorite, I ‘made up’ surf squats

-burpee
-jump up like you’re on a surfboard then switch stance from ‘regular’ to ‘goofy’.

thats one rep. keep that going… guaranteed to send your heart rate through the roof if you do them fast.

Hindu squats are bad for the knees. The sheer volume will injure you. You’re better off squatting with weights for 8 minutes straight. Hungarian Oak FTW!

^re: hungarian oak

I actually would do something similar on the power squat, squat for the entire round of a fight 3min for muay thai. crazy shit. my legs are a LOT bigger and i dont get ‘cement’ legs in a fight either. something i bust out of the tool bag every now and then if i didn’t get much conditioning in that week.

i honestly never thought of doing it with just back squats that seems crazy to me hahaha i get light headead as it is i might die doing that with bar
