Hillary a Marine?

Hillary will expand the war in Iraq, as she is very militaristic, having tried to join the Marines. She’ll kick their asses when she’s prez!

“Gee, now it was probably 19 years ago - in 1975,” Mrs. Clinton recalled. “I decided that I was very interested in having some experience in serving in some capacity in the military.”

“Because we all love the military so much,” Mr. Clinton interjected helpfully.

Hillary resumed: “So I walked into our local recruiting office, and I think it was just my bad luck that the person who happened to be there on duty could not have been older than 21. He was in perfect physical shape.”

She remembered telling the recruiter, “I wanted to explore - I didn’t know whether I thought active duty would be a good idea, reserve, you know, maybe National Guard, something along those lines.”

But Hillary’s bid to become a leatherneck soon came unraveled.

“This young man looked at me and he said, ‘How old are you?’” she recalled.

"I said, ‘Well, 27’ … I had these really thick glasses on.

"He said, ‘How bad’s your eyesight?’

"I said, ‘It’s pretty bad.’

"And he said, ‘How bad?’

"So I told him.

"He said, ‘That’s pretty bad.’

"And he finally said to me, he said: ‘You’re too old. You can’t see. And you’re a woman.’ And then he went on … this man, young man, was a Marine.

“He said, ‘But maybe the dogs [Army] would take you.’”

“This is not a very encouraging conversation,” Mrs. Clinton recalled thinking. “So maybe I’ll look for another way to serve my country.”

The original transcript of Hillary’s “I-tried-to-join-the-Marines” interview has vanished from the LexisNexis archives, but excerpts from a rebroadcast on Rush Limbaugh’s old TV show are still available.

You go girl!!

This rumor gets stranger every time I hear it. The version I heard is that she couldn’t join the Marines because she was still getting her asthma shots.

Hey, if she really did try, I admire her. As your alluding to, asthma kept me out. So what?

That joke is so old that it is catching up with old wheazy.

I’m a conservative who can’t wait for Bush’s term to end. Worst president we’ve ever had.

That said, it will be a CATASTROPHE if Hillary is elected. I’ll move to Mexico if she wins.

so while her husband was burning flags and chanting ‘death to amerika’, she was trying to enlist? wow. so this is how they intend to deal with her ‘lack of military experience’? this should be fun.

You’re hilarious.

As opposed to, say, Deadeye Cheney’s military experience.

Or Mr. National Guard Daddy-Saved-My-Ass Bush? Or the warrior known as Donald Rumsfeld? Or better yet, the killing machine named Karl Rove?

Surely not opposed to Vietnam Vet Kerry or Murtha.

And as to the guy who made the asthma remark…“hahahahahhahahahhahahhaha”. Hypocrisy runs deep with Headhunter.

Hillary is a war hawk, like most Democrats. I’m suprised you take issue with her on foreign policy, HH.

If a Dem admin gets elected, don’t be suprised if the neocons switch to the other side of the isle. After all, they’re Ivy-League educated elitists with roots on the far left.

I find it fascinating that you like to rip on someone with an illness. Is this part of the the Socialist philosophy of life? I know Hitler was a Socialist and like to kill off those who weren’t blessed by ‘Aryan purity’, who saw illness as a weakness, but aren’t you above that sort of thing?

Why didn’t you make this much sense in the Jessica Simpson thread? You’re last paragraph is actually rational — bravo!

First of all, I have asthma. My brother has asthma. It ain’t the end of the world.

Secondly, my point is it’s easy to talk about going to war and make fun of others when you know you’ll never go yourself.

I think the debate of a candidate’s military experience is usually one of the most overblown aspects of any campaign. The fiasco with Bush and Kerry this last go 'round was as bad as it gets.

You had the ‘Rather documents’ you had the ‘Swift Boat Veterans’. It seemed to never end and, in the end, it amounted to nothing. I don’t think many people - with exception of active military - rely on this aspect of candidates resume.

But because it is always made such an issue of, candidates over-hype what they have done. In many, many cases they just out-and-out lie. Often, the lie is not exposed for many years.

If someone had the balls to do something great under fire, in battle, I think that’s great. Give them a check mark in the ‘plus’ column. But not everyone get’s that opportunity. Not everyone had the chance. Not everyone has that hard-wired as part of the content of their character, either.

I don’t think that should invalidate years of public service and otherwise distinguished achievement. These are politicians, not warriors. Having an understanding of current adn past policy and the nature of diplomacy is key. Having been in a foxhole can give you an insight. But it’s not what I’m looking for on my president’s resume.

There’s a difference between wanting to help defend your country and cowering in a pleasant life that SOMEONE ELSE makes possible. It truly hurts that someone else has to do my fighting for me.
