High Rep Assistance Work?


Today was my first day of 5/3/1 for hardgainers, i wonder why the program prescribes 100 dips, 100 chin ups and not add more intensity to that assitance work? i’m just asking cause i’m more used to do that like, 4x10 weighted dips same with chins, if i add weight to the the 100 rep dips i’d never finish the set.



Because you are trying to add size as the goal. And when trying to add size we take bodybuiling principles, namely time under tension. 100 reps unweighted is way more time under tension than 4x10 weighted. It will also be less stressful on the joints to do it again during the week.
