  • Lately I’ve been stressed with a bunch of college work. My GPA is not up to par, and if i don’t bring it up to a 3.0 I will lose my academic scholarship and have to pay this private college out of my ass. I’m facing what seems to be an insurmountable hill. Feeling very stressed.

Today while squatting, I realize I was heading into uncharted territory for an all time PR. The bar felt rediculously heavy on my back for some reason. Much heaver than the 320lbs from last week. I took about 4min rests between each work set. I had to listen to very loud music to pump up, and I’d begin the set when the chorus to the song came on. I have absolutely no idea how, but I pulled through, nearly failing on the final rep of each set.

After the final rep of the third set, I sat down and just slumped onto a stool. Then something weird happened. I could feel endorphins or seratonin or something releasing into my body, and it was forcing me to smile. At first I was insanely angry in order to be aggressive enough to finish the three sets, but then I was very happy. To add to the euphoria I was feeling, the chorus repeated itself on my earphones but I was already done with the work sets, so I felt this huge feeling of success. Then…I gained a completely new perspective on the problem I’m having with my college work. I realized that ANY hill is surmountable, and completing this PR has actually reduced the amount of stress I’m feeling in other areas of my life.

Big mental win for me today.
