Henry Rollins Spoken Word Tour

Why does DLR say “OW!!” after each of his sentences?
Because Dave has pain you and I will never understand.

LMFAO!!!

Henry Rocks! I like his passion, point of view, and the fact that the dude lifts!

Oddly enough, I never could stand his music. I’m just not into punk, really. But I love his spoken word stuff.

As much as I like HR, I just rather hear him with Black Flag from back in the day. To me, music speaks louder than words, cranked to the max.
I think I’d rather go to a circle jerk than go to a spoken word gig.

No homo.

In 2000 I went to a Spaulding Gray (Swimming to Cambodia) spoken word gig. Afterwards I went out for a beer at a local brew pub. While I was standing at the bar with a buddy of mine, Gray came in, sat at a booth and ordered something. Nobody knew him (no surprise there). I sent over a beer, but otherwise didn’t interrupt his dinner. After a while, he came over, thanked me and gave me another 45 minute monologue. Interesting guy.

Those slam poetry and spoken word guys always sound the same to me. Henry Rollins is a pretty funny guy, so I might check it out if I had the chance. I liked early Black Flag better than later.

Henry himself usually calls them “talking shows” rather than spoken word gigs, because his shows really have zero similarity to your typical spoken word gigs. SW gigs are usually very serious, just the person’s train of thought, with usually zero crowd interaction, etc. The have a very formal, serious tone to them.

Henry’s gigs are just like him talking, totally casually, to the audience, telling stories, and more often than not being very funny in the process of it. Think of it as 65 to 70% standup comedy and 30 to 35% really good storytelling, all told by a guy with a very intelligent mind.

Yeah, that doesn’t seem half bad.

My impression of SW is a college professor’s lecture except with a (more) liberal agenda.

I’ve seen him several times for spoken word shows and get a huge kick out of him. He can be really funny, particularly when he used to tell stories of touring with the original Rollins Band and Black Flag.

I saw him with BF and the original RB, and loved the energy of his shows. Very compelling, though the RB crowds were more interesting. I’ve never seen so much ink in one place as at the old RB shows, and that’s saying something.

I miss the first RB; Haskett and Sim Cain are hard to replace.

Sorry for the hijack.

I like the guy, but every time I happen to catch his show on the tube, that crazy miserable Janine Garafalow crybaby is on blaming everything that is wrong in the world on the evil republicans. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but this chick is out of her fucking mind.

She’s on there because Henry shares her views!
Did you ever hear his rant on that loud-mouthed shemale Anne Coulter? Awesomely funny.
