Hmm, I more or less thought the same thing before I settled in Montreal. Then I learned there is a big mafia presence here. Same families as in the U.S. I think the only real difference is that if you cross them they hit your knees with a hockey stick instead of a baseball bat before they shoot you.
I also heard the Hell’s Angels had a big shootout a few years back over some drug deal gone wrong. I suspect that the difference here with them is that they outfit their hogs with snow tires in the winter.
