Help for Spring Contest

Hello, I’m looking for some advice from you guys.

I plan on doing a Bodybuilding Contest in the spring. I just went too one this weekend that my friend was in and now i’m interested because I love the idea, and I think I can be successful.

Right now i’m around 15% bodyfat. The contest is in 9 months and I’m wondering if I should just try and gain LBM right now. Then do pre-contest for 15-16 weeks in 5 months, or if I should try and get down too around 10-12% body fat then try for some more LBM. I’m 6’2" 212lb’s at the moment.

For my training at the moment I am doing a 4 day cycle 1.chest, 2.back, 3.legs, 4. traps/shoulders. Then if I am too sore to restart with chest I take a day off.

My diet consist of Miscellar Casein, Peanuts, Almonds, Olive Oil, and Oatmeal, because of money issues I can’t eat Lean meats, chicken, and veggies/fruits all that often. I also have a peri-workout shake that is 15g Leucine, 10g Glutamine, 5g Creatine, 50 gram hydrolyzed whey, and 80 grams maltodextrin, usually with around 4oz of juice too so 20g more carb.

I take multivitamin 3 times daily with fatty meals, Resverastrol 500mg in morning, DHEA 50mg 20 minutes prior to workout. I also take ZMA at bedtime and pop around 12 fishoils a day around meals.

I appreciate any advice and am open to anything. I have always read the articles and many forums post especially stu’s, professor x’s, and CT’s. Thanks again

Ya know, I’m 6’2 also and I don’t even feel like I’ll be ready to step on stage for another year or so, if that. I just urge you to be realistic with your time frames but if you choose to compete more power to you!

I understand, I don’t expect to win or anything, this isn’t a major competition but one for my college. I just want to start getting into it and learning more about it. I figure the best way to do this is too do it. As I said above my friend did one, and he isn’t that great. He ended up coming back with a trophy and more sups than his entrance fee was worth. I don’t think it would hurt too much, and I want to learn. I wish you luck with yourself too.

I think it would be a great learning experience for you. Don’t expect to win or anything, but if you have fun and enjoy yourself go for it.

Then take that knowledge you gain and come back a few years later and do better.

This. However, I think Waylander is right. If you were to get into contest condition right now, you would probably come in at a tall and skinny 180 lb dude.

Hopefully Stu will chime in as he will give much better advice than I can.

Also, I would recommend you post a few pictures for critique/advice. An avatar of just your purty abs is tough to judge.

I’ve thought about wanting to enter a show too. something small; I’m not big enough to win anything, i’d do it to learn. I’m interested where this thread goes.

READ THIS AGAIN. Where do you get all your supps?? Ur using all these supps and u say you cant afford meat and vegies that often? Thats wat should be making up your diet. Hydolyzed whey, creatine, glutamine, leucine, multi v, fish oil, zma, resveratrol?? Thats where ur moneys going.

Yes these things work, but a diet full of nuts, oatmeal and oil, aint gonna cut it, sort that out first. then consider a contest. besides at 6’2 u gotta have a little meat on ya before u compete. anychance of some photos?

The supplements I get from a friend. I get them really cheap through connections.

I know that I’m going to be a skinny/lanky 180lb but everyone starts somewhere, and that’s more than my friend had and he won a trophy and supplements. I just want to do it though to learn and get better mostly.

The pictures, I will get some up some time within the next week or so. I don’t have camera so I’ll have to get my girl too take some or something.

For the next week I am going too post my workout/diet. My goal as of this moment is too gain atleast 10 lbs LBM in next 5 months then keep it while cutting for show.

My diet today went
woke up 8am
was going lifting at 9am so I started my periworkout shake
64gcarbs maltodextrin 20gcarbs nesquik 60g protein hydrolyzed whey 10g leuicine 10g glutamine
Sipped at it from ten minutes before till my last set it was finished.
-100gcarbs 80gprotein 780 cal

11:38- I had a protein bar and 4 fishoil pills.
-15gfat 32gcarb 30gprotein

2:25- I had protein bar and 4 fishoil pills.
-15gfat 32gcarb 30gprotein

4:57 I had 1/2cup oats a casein shake and 1oz peanuts with 4 fishoil

  • 21.5fat 33gcarb 57gprotein

8:00 I had 1/2 cup cottage cheese, 1 oz peanuts 4 fishoil, 1/2cup oats, head of broccoli and 4oz chicken
22.5gfat 38gcarb 40g protein.(didn’t include broccoli)

at 10:00 I’m going to have 1oz peanuts and a casein shake with 4 fishoil.
18gfat 5g carb 37g protein.

that is 208g(832cal) carbs 274g(1096cal) protein and 92g(828cal) fat totaling 2756 calories

protein-39.7%
carb-30.2%
fat-30.1%

I don’t think your eating enough at all. 2800 calories would be low for you even if you were cutting!

Okay thanks, I’m going to have too agree because i’ve lost 2 lb’s last 2 weeks and because stu told me eat more like 3400. I’m incorporating those changes today.

9 months away dude? Gain some LBM. Just because you might not be the biggest dude there, doent mean you shouldn’t try to gain as much muscle as you can now.

My best advice to you as a fellow future competitor(MY show ill be in oct.) is:

  1. Gain as much muscle as you can now by upping your protein intake

  2. Get better gains by having a good Peri workout protocol(Thibs), and 50% of your daily cals AROUND your workout.
