Help: Could Iran Adopt Leninism?

I have a test tomorrow for comparative politics. Our test question is… Could Iran adopt Leninism? Obviously, there is no wrong or right answer but out teacher wants a solid argument for either way. What do you guys think and why do you think?

Could Iran adopt Leninism?

Yes.

No because the religion is too entrenched.

They’d have to do some sort of nationalist/religious socialism – which they have and use oil money to prop it up.

Absolutely not!
Communism has always been shunned in Iran, there is no party like it allowed in Iran. They are considered as a backward view to have as opposed to pre-revolution where it was seen as forward thinking. Just as in the west there are very few Iranian people with a ‘Leninist’ outlook in or out of Iran.

True. They’d get killed by the nuts who run the place.

Yep, pretty much!

Depends what definition of leninism you use. If it is a political paradigm based on Lenins writings, then probably not, but if by Leninism you mean a totalitarian regime like what developed in the soviet union, then yes that could happen to Iran and some will perhaps argue that is the case allready. Must note that if Iran moves from the authoritarian state it is in now to a totalitarian one, it will probably be a religious totalitarianism in contrast to the marxist-leninist totalitarianism of the soviets or as one can call it vulgaer-socialism.

It meant more marxist-leninist! But thanks for the replies guys. Test went well. It also asked could one of the three ex-colonial countries (Iran, nigeria, mexico) could adopt Liberalism. But I think the test went well. Keep the discussion going, its interesting!
