Frank Mir vs Shane Carwin UFC 111. Oh man this fight is better than Brock Carwin imo. So many questions, can Mir handle a huge strong athletic wrestler, who survives the standup, Mir’s bjj vs. Carwin’s wrestling.
Also Ricardo Almeida vs. Thiago Alves (should be interesting). Many people will go off the Cote fight (I thought Almeida won) and think Alves will wreck Almeida, I think it will be competitive.
Dan Hardy vs. GSP- I hate all things GSP and would love to see him lose to Hardy (he’s growing on me plus I’ll take anyone over Pierre).

Mir vs Carwin should be interesting. Mir looked very impressive in his submission win over Kongo, and it’ll be interesting to see how his improved strength and conditioning helps him against someone like Carwin. The striking battle should also be interesting as we’ve seen that Carwin can end a fight with a single punch, and Mir showed some good power in dropping Kongo. On the ground Carwin is the better wrestler, but Mir is the better submission artist. Should be a good match stylistically.
Almeida vs. Alves should also be interesting. Alves’ last fight was a man handling at the hands of GSP. It’ll be interesting to see if he’s worked on improving his weaknesses and if he’s recovered mentally from that loss.
GSP vs. Hardy is probably going to be another dominant win by GSP in my opinion. Hardy has a puncher’s chance, but if he doesn’t catch GSP early he’s going to get repeatedly taken down and pounded on. I just don’t think he’s that fantastic of a striker (not better than Alves for example) and certainly not stronger or better takedown defense than others who GSP has dominated. Who knows, GSP might even submit him early.
Hardy vs GSP - Hardy has 0 chance, GSP will dominate easily. Hardy can only win through sleeping with Tyche - eg GSP being disqualified, GSP failing the urine test, GSP having a seizure mid-fight.
Mir vs Carwin - Definitely Shane Mir.
Honestly, this is hard: Carwin can bang, but his standup is rather predictable and Mir has shown he can “watch a lot of DVDs” (Schwarzpoints for getting it) to prepare himself well. So maybe Mir by a counterpunch?
Carwin on top is good for Carwin, but Mir’s JJ is top notch from the bottom. And I think he spends a good deal of time to sharpen his escapes, reversals and subs against XXL guys on top.
So 50/50. Caarwin wins either straightforward early on. Then Mir has his window, then comes Carwin again, when endurance has taken finesse away.
This’ll be very interesting.
ps: I’m glad Kongo is kinda exposed, not that he’s not a beast, but he was never the genius the UFC marketed him as.
BJ Penn is my favorite fighter.
GSP is a punk who tries to make everbody like him.
He acted like a dick to Hughes “I am not impressed.”
He cusses when he thinks cameras aren’t around him.
He is booooooring as hell.
GSP takedown oh damn another takedown jab jab takedown leg kick takedown.
He is on roidz nobody is that built from not lifting (same siza early in his career). Breathing technique my ass there is a weird coincidence of Greg Jackson athletes being greasy. (No I don’t think it effected the fights but is still lame).
He is lean and eats Mcdonalds then crticizes BJ for being fat in the second fight.
He thinks he won the first fat against Penn. (his face looked like someone took a meat masher to it, but it was all the eye poke).
Acts like he had it so rough, man it must be tough to be an incredible athlete dude acts like he is Matt Hamill.
He rubs his nipples and shaves himself, he tans which is weird.
His entrance is stupid the running in the cage, the dumb kimonos, the bowing, the headband.
I could literally go on and on but these are a few reasons I can’t stand him.

This is sarcasm…a joke, right? If not,it’s still fuckin’ hilarious…among other things.
Update.
I’ve read that Brock ~has had/has diverticulitis.
That’s more or less a death sentence for his ambitions. Eating huge amounts of food frequently to sustain his strength, mass and energy for working out is probably gone.
Can’t say I’ll miss him dearly, but it would have been interesting to see if Mir or some other more technical BJJ guy would have found an answer to so much raw power.
The UFC crown will go to Mir or Carwin - and stay there.
We really get to see some interesting match-up in the HW division.
Mir vs. Carwin - I can’t wait for this fight. Mir should have the edge in all but a flash knockout. There in lies the rub. If Carwin catches him just once it could be over. Carwin is the epitome of people’s fascination with HWs. A single fight ending punch is likely.
Cain vs. Nog â?? I think this will be good fight. I am really interested to see if it goes to the ground at all. I donâ??t think it does unless Cain wants it to and I donâ??t think he looks to take it there unless Nog is getting the better of the striking. I think we see a three round boxing match. Nog probably hits the canvas a few times but Cain doesnâ??t follow.
Dos Santos vs. Yvel â?? Interesting match-up. I kind of wish they would have given Yvel a warm-up fight with one of the pure strikers in the division, but at least they didnâ??t throw him in with a wrestler. I just really enjoy watching him bang. I know Dos Santos has a ground game, but wonder how good his take downs are? Please Gilbert, work your TD defence HARD. He would be an absolute blast to watch against any of the HWs if he could stuff a TD once and awhile.
To me, this is the title picture for most of 2010. I donâ??t think Brock comes back anytime soon. If he does it should not be with the belt. Throwing him in with any of these guys after his illness is ridiculous.
Give him at least one favourable match-up to shake off the ring rust and get to at least 90%. They are going to want him back as soon as he is able, and my guess is he wonâ??t have anywhere near the conditioning, strength, or quickness he once had. A warm-up fight buys him a few more months to regain these before taking on a contender or the current champ.
If he is really in as bad of shape as they say he is, stripping him of the title would be doing him a favour if he comes back. In the mean time we get to see some good HW match-ups.

True. Mir showed that he can drop someone with one punch in his last fight as well though. So a single fight ending punch could come from either fighter’s hand. Hopefully we’ll finally get to see how good Carwin’s wrestling is, and how much improved Mir’s strength and conditioning is. Definitely don’t see the fight going a full 5 rounds though.
I don’t know, I think that Nog can outbox Cain. Kongo nearly knocked him silly several times in their fight, and I think that Nog is as good of a boxer as Kongo. Just look how he picked Randy apart in their fight. I think it will be Cain who decides to take it to the ground, and that’s where it’ll get interesting. Can Cain take Nog down and not get put into guard or submitted in the process? Can Cain keep Nog down once it gets to the ground/how good is Cain’s control? Can Nog reverse Cain and get a dominant position? If so, how good is Cain off his back? How good is Cain’s submission defense?
This should be a fun fight to watch stylistically. Both of these guys love to bang, so I think it’ll remain on the feet, unless maybe Dos Santos is getting his ass handed to him. Yvel is one tough SOB though, and is very heavy handed, so that might very well happen. I don’t really think that Dos Santos’ takedowns or ground game are all that good though, and even though Yvel got repeatedly taken down by Barnett, I doubt that Dos Santos will be able to repeat that feat.
I hope you’re right. Either that or, I hope that Brock isn’t actually as sick as he’s been rumored to be, and is able to return 100%.

Mir’s striking certainly looks better but Carwin power is on different level. Kongo didn’t look all that shooken up to me and Mir doesn’t have near the record of KOs. There are not many HWs that couldn’t knock you silly with a well placed punch, but Carwin seems to be in a class by himself.
I agree with most of this. I think we will get to see how good Cain’s striking really is. Nog is not a KO artist, so I see Cain getting out-pointed unless he can do some damage. Even if Nog gets the better of most exchanges and pepper away at him, all Cain has to do is knock him down a few times to steal a round or two.
If Cain is smart, he’s watch the last Lesnar Mir fight. Lesnar gave Mir absolutly no room to work a submission. Even Nog isn’t going to submit someone that is stuck to him like glue. Even Nog needs a little space to work a submission or sweep.
Agree. I am most intested to see what Dos Santos does when he does not get the better of the striking match. I don’t think Yvel will have to tag him that many time before JDS starts thinking about taking it to the mat. I thought JDS was a pretty high level BJJ guy?
This may sound a little strange, but I am actually enjoying him being out of the picture for a while. I think it’s allowing the division to sort itself out a bit, rather than the ufc focusing who provides the biggest PPV event with Lesnar.

Not arguing that. Carwin is arguably the hardest puncher in all of MMA right now, if not then he’s certainly right up there. I also agree that Kongo wasn’t knocked out by Mir’s punch, but rather knocked down. Still, if Mir knocks Carwin down and then gets mount (or maybe even side control) on him, it could spell the end of the fight. I do agree though that it’ll likely be either a TKO or submission victory if it goes Mir’s way, and not an actual KO.

Cain isn’t nearly as big and strong as lesnar though. Not to mention that Lesnar has been known for his top control skills ever since his college wrestling days. So I don’t think that strategy would work as well for him as it did for Lesnar against Mir. Maybe I’m wrong though. Guess we’ll have to wait and see.
Still, the ease with which Nog reversed Randy makes me think that Cain might have some trouble with Nog if it goes to the mat.

He’s got a brown belt under Nog, but he’s yet to showcase any submission skills in the Octagon, and only has one win by actual submission in his professional career. Barnett was unable to submit Yvel, and I’d wager he’s a better submission guy than Dos Santos. I haven’t really seen much of Dos Santos’ takedown skills either, so hopefully we’ll get to see hi grappling skills showcased in this fight.

I get what you’re saying. I was more so saying that I hope they either allow him to ease back into the title picture, or when he does eventually return (which I think everyone acknowledges will be a while) he is 100%. I just don’t want them to throw him back in there at 75%, have him get his butt kicked and then have all kinds of excuses why he lost. I want him at 100% when he fights for the title again so we know that the best Brock lesnar either won or lost the title fair and square.
