Return of the Muskrat

1 March 2018

Went back to the gym today. Shoulder was still bothering me, so I decided to skip the pressing. Back felt great though!

Snatch-Grip Deadlift: 95x8, 135x5, 185x3x5
Chest-Supported Row: 10x5, 1x30
Tricep Pushdown: 3x8
Leg Extension: 1x15, 1x12, 1x8
Back Extension: 1x50

Really, really good workout. Next semester, I will have less classes, so I’m planning on a 3- or 4-day 5/3/1 program. I will have 6 hours of class on Tuesday and Thursday but only 1 hour on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Thus, I am thinking about lifting on Monday/Wednesday/Friday morning (and maybe Sunday morning if I decide to do 4 days).

Thank you, good sir! May Brodin bless you with bodacious gainzZz. May Rippetoe hypertrophy your glutes and Wendler your traps. May your arse tickle the earth as you squat your sets of 5.

I’m not sure I’d like my ass to tickle. But bring on the rest of what you said :joy:

10 March 2018

Press: 105x3, 120x3, 135x10 $ PR $
Chest-Supported Row: 3x10
Hanging Leg Raises: 3x5

Exercise Bike: 20 minutes

I hit my goal of 135 for 10 reps! Complete balls to the wall set.

The last 2 were so ugly. My legs started to give out around number 7, so I stumbled around between reps 8 and 9. My brother said the last couple reps were the ugliest he had ever seen :joy: I went through full ROM though, so I’m pleased.

A PR is a PR. And they are often not very pretty.
congrats

I appreciate it, Mort! The PR well has been dry for too long, so I’m trying to get it flowing again :joy: I’m super excited. I’ve been following your quest to become a ripped viking. Good stuff.

thanks man, but this and the next cycle calls for no PR’s and everybody around here pr’s.
I’ll be back in a month or two with a bench, squat and ohp PR I hope

Don’t worry about it man. I was hesitant about doing the leader stuff with no PRs for two months, but honestly, it got me up to my old strength levels back when I was 200 lbs (I’m 190 now). I’m almost to that bodyweight press and 275 bench, which I thought were gargantuan numbers a couple of years ago. Slow and steady! Also, my training maxes were pretty low the past couple of months, so I made my lifts harder by doing 2-sec paused bench and slow-eccentric press. I personally think you’ll get stronger even if you don’t go for PRs for a while (kind of similar to how your real max can go up faster than your training max). Regardless, I’ll be following!

Thanks Hog! It was a very satisfying lift. I’ve been following your log, and you’ve hit a bunch of PRs lately. Good stuff.

Bench: 155x3, 180x3, 200x11 (rep PR)
Deadlift: 135x5, 185x5, 235x5
Squat: 95x2x20
Back Extension: 1x50
Rear Delt Raise: 1x50
Push-Ups: 2x25

The bench press flew up today. However, my spotter was awful. My brother wasn’t up yet, so I had to get someone at the gym to spot me. I had to tell the guy three separate times during my set to not touch the bar, and after the 11th rep, he grabbed it. I had at least 12 and probably 13. A bit irritating. On the bright side, though, I am still happy with the lift.
