Hey man, political theory book club went really well! We read selections from Leviathan and an anarchist critique of Hobbes. We talked a lot about Hobbes’ state of nature and his theory of the Subject. Also talked about the ethical foundations of government, the legal system, and explicit and implicit power structures. I saw some pretty big guys at the gym today. One guy warmed up with 225x18 on the bench press and worked up to 365. Another dude squatted 495. Those are the biggest numbers I’ve ever seen in my college gym, and I saw both in the same night.

This workout sucked bodacious anus. Bench press felt so heavy. I’ve not been eating and sleeping enough recently, so that’s definitely something I can improve. School and LSAT are robbing me of my time and my sleep, but I think that if I manage my time better and prioritize important tasks, I can get better sleep. I’m a little pissed that I’m a fat, weak fucker haha :cowboy_hat_face: My plan is to cut back to 5x5 @ FSL and drastically cut assistance volume until I can get my recovery back under control. It just shows me that training with kids and a wife would be really hard.

Ignorant bench press session. My brother got drunk and really wanted to bench, so we went down to the gym at my friend’s apartment. It had a Smith machine, so we benched on that.

Bench Press: 95x5, 135x5, 185x1, 225x1, 255x1, 275x1, 285x1, 295x0

Failed the hell out of 295. However, nutrition has been shit today, so I’m still pretty happy haha. Gonna have some protein when I get home.

Update:

Just opened a new bag of protein powder and was fishing for the scoop. Something just told me the fucker was at the bottom of the 10 lb bag. I washed my hands and plunged my arm into the powdery abyss. After sifting through the chocolate sands for some while, my paw came across something hard. Was this it? Was this the Scoop I had been searching for all along? I grasped the apparatus and freed it from its shackles, taking 2 scoops as atonement for its sins. As I inhaled the disgusting elixir, I immediately felt the swollertrophy of the gods course through my veins to bless my next bench press session.

Moral of the story: When life puts the protein scooper at the bottom of the goddamn 10 lb bag, don’t get mad. Use it as an opportunity to hypertrophy your forearms.

I am studying in the library right now and just saw a huge dude. He was wearing a Westside Barbell shirt, so I asked him if he was into powerlifting. He was really cool, said he had been training with Westside methods for a while now, but he encouraged me and told me to stick with lifting (and 5/3/1). Really awesome that there are dudes like that around. Talking to folks like that makes me really love lifting.
