Just curious if anybody does actually give blood to help reduce the hematocrit and iron stores?
Yes. For people with iron storage disorders giving blood is the only treatment for reducing iron levels in the body. Giving blood will also reduce you hct for a period of time because once you give blood you rehydrate to get your total volume back to normal, this is essentially diluting your blood (i.e. reducing your hct). But your hct will eventually get back to normal once your body has a chance to make more RBCs
