Head Gear

So it seems that I am to stupid to keep from getting black eyes while sparring and it is becoming a issue at. Work can anyone suggest quality head gear that can help me reduce the chance of black eyes. We full spar kick box. I currently have CHEAP everlast head gear and need better.

I also know that getting better will help but that takes time.

Do you not tape your head? 5/6 wraps around with some bandage will greatly reduce the effect of contact with your head from a fist or shoe.

On a serious note, I always found head gear got me hit much more, because I spent most of my time adjusting it, when I wasn’t running away. I always tried to avoid it altogether when sparring. Anything with a bitch bar will work though, as it makes it very difficult for a gloved fist to touch your eye. You will get laughed at though,or at least you should.

I have Rev Gear brand head gear. Lots of adjustability and it does not move around on my head much at all. If you catch one the right way obviously it will get turned but if you are sparring you can just back up and adjust it. Honestly I can make mine so tight that after a round or two it squeezes my head to much.

Most people don’t like headgear and I understand. I prefer to use it when sparring hard because I don’t want to be talking about lipton cup of soup and oreo cookies for no reason someday. On the flip side of that it is good to take some shots sometimes too and headgear actally gives you less room to slip.

Ordered some Title Platinum training head gear. The inside is suede leather to help prevent moving around and the reviews on it were great for the price. I will update when it gets here and I use it. Either way it will be a huge improvement over the cheap Everlast stuff I have now.

Completely agree with you and I actually enjoy taking a nice solid shot. It sounds weird but after getting my bell rung I know that I can take it and it helps build my confidence. On that same note I am not much of a technical boxer. I kind of wade in and am willing to trade shots hoping my shots are bigger and I hurt you more than you hurt me.

Again the big issue is that as a police officer my boss doesn’t believe that I am portraying the professional image that the department wants walking around with a black eye all the time,3 in 5 months. I understand that and hopefully quality headgear will help me out. I am also going to learn how to slip a little more

I hear ya about the Job thing. It is funny all the looks and comments you get when your face is messed up. My last fight the guy opened my eye up pretty good, needed stitches really. We left the Casino we were in to go to another one for some food and I had this butterfly band aid on my eyebrow and it was starting to swell pretty good. Oh the looks and people would step to the side and look around LOL. I could hardly imagine being a police officer and dealing with people from that perspective what they must think.

Good luck with the head gear. The suede inner will keep the sweat out of your eyes so that is a bonus.
