Growth Plates

I read on the forum about people saying too much weight is bad for your growing by damging your growing plates. But how much weight is too much?

Not that i am lifting enough weight too damage them, but i’d like to know for the future as i am only 16.

My lifts are:

Squat 220 lbs 5 reps
Deadlift 200 lbs 5 reps ( i started deadlifting way after i started squatting, so it will catch up)
Benchpress 160 lbs 5 reps

I wouldn’t worry about that to be honest, i’m 17 and I’m not strong but I’ve done rack pull with 500lbs and never had any problem, just had a growth spurt as well, went from 6’1" to 6’3" in a couple of months so i’m sure weightlifting hasnt affected my growth.

It is more an issue of what training percentages you are using.

You didn’t indicate how old you are but I would just spend most of your time training in the 70-85% range.

3 sets of 10, 3 sets of 8, 3 sets of 6. Something like 2 weeks at 10’s, 4 weeks at 8’s, 2 weeks at 6’s then do it again.

Focus on compound movements and get out of the gym in 45 minutes. Hard and fast workouts.

Also, get some help with your form on compound movements.

Training at too high of a percentage with crappy form= recipe for disaster.
