Straps are awesome for getting stronger at the deadlift.
Get straps, adjust your grip and stance just a bit. You’ll be fine. Semi-sumo is a powerful stance. And don’t listen to any moron who tells you using straps is a bad idea. Train grip separately if you decide to train it at all.
Grip the smooth part, wear straps or buy gloves. All this purse jargon is ridiculous. I personally don’t like gloves or see a need for them, but I’ve seen many of strong older guys wearing them and would never in my life ask them if it matches their purse. Just seems idiotic to me.
OP, moral of the story is if you train with the smooth part your grip will get stronger. If you wear gloves or straps, your deadlift will get stronger. Just do whatever allows you to deadlift.
If you get clavicle lengthening surgery, your grip will fall on the knurling more naturally.
