Grinding Knees

I have the same issue. I’ll be watching this thread.

Thanks again everyone…
I did the eliptical for cardio and even then I can feel things moving around in my knees, so much that I couldn’t ignore it…so annoying!! Walking uphill on the treadmill seems to be ok…
I don’t even like running, lol…only did it in bootcamp because I had to…

So basically, I am going to see the doc…and I’ll get referred to a specialist…
Meanwhile- no more running!!

Indeed, IF (don’t trust the internet diagnosis 100%) it is chondromalacia, stop running… the condition is also known as ‘runners knee’, and can be a result of repetitive stress (striking the ground with each step). Does cycling hurt you? If not, you may find you really enjoy it; I’ll take a 30+ mile put any day over a 6-mile run

Cycling doesn’t bother me…thanks Patricio!

I’m also concerned about other compound stuff, like squats, deads, lunges, etc…
If it doesn’t hurt, do you think it’s ok? I know you all are not docs, but I trust your opinions…
My appt with my own Doc isn’t even for another month, and who knows how long it will take to get in to see the specialist…ugh.

IDK about whether it’s a good idea to keep doing squats, deads, lunges, etc… I personally would keep doing them, though, but use variations that just give you a mechanical disadvantage so you can use lighter weight but still get a good workout. Deadlifts from a deficit with a snatch grip come to mind… I’d probably also use higher reps, too.

You could also try some unilateral work.

Mike Robertson has a book/DVD package called “bulletproof knees” in the store. It’s kind of expensive, but IMO, if I were you, I’d shell out.

Mike’s DVD has good info, can’t go wrong if you have a few bucks to spend.

I’d keep doing the exercises but be CERTAIN you’re using good form, practice with light weights for a while to make sure you break any old bad habits, then start increasing in weight again.

I’ve been doing squats for a good while, and have worked my way up, using good form…I alternate with heavy and light days, and my heavy days aren’t all that heavy, lol…I’ve had my PT observe my form…I know what you’re thinking, lol…he’s a good guy though, and a pro bodybuilder too, and he says it’s all good…

I’m still going to be training for this strongman comp though…if I’m not able to train super heavy one day, I might as well do it now! :stuck_out_tongue:
