Hi all have been a long time in the wilderness but good to be back.
Have had a few experiences (good/bad) over the last few weeks of training. If you guys could help me out with a few answers, hopefully it will stop others going down the same path haha.
Sn - A few weeks back i worked up to a 100kg attempt (1st one of the day). Now this would have been attempt number 15 overall :). Same set up as always, stayed tight, kept my hips low, big 2nd pull, bar overhead and out the back. :S. Close but no cigar. 3 mins rest. 2nd attempt (or attempt 16 depending on how you look at it). Same set up, bar felt light off the floor, big pull, overhead and BANG!. Think Steiner at the olympics. It was funny apart from the lump on the back of my head.
My question. Why did my arm bend and i struggle to hold the weight above my head even though i can OHS 100x5? Is it arm, shoulder strength? or something i haven’t thought of?
Clean - Cleaning from the blocks yesterday. Trying Ilins own brand of awesomeness, walk up and lift! worked up to 110x3 new PB the went for 115 for a single. Bar felt light, but I didn’t finish the pull and got crushed under it.
Not finishing the pull and still trying to get under feels like a rookie mistake. Looked like i had my hands taped to my shoulders, trying to use a door handle. . Is not finishing the 2nd pull a mental thing? trying to get under too quickly. Will continuing to block clean help this?
lifts as of yesterday are exactly the same as i had in April.
If you catch it with bent arms you are f0cked. It will come down and you either get out of the way or you don’t. It happens once in a blue moon. 110 took a swipe at my back last year :P. Not arm strength issue. You can hold loads of weight with locked arms.
It is a technique and timing issue. you have to finish to get maximum bar height. Or if your very quick you can sneak under but this doesn’t help you pull 145+ that you will want to someday. Block cleans can help most lifters. Do it for 4-6 weeks and see how you go. I would still add in lifting from the floor once a week.
I missed 117.5 about 7 or 8x on Monday. All were crazy close. One I racked but lost on the squat up but it was my first time full Sn in about 4-5 weeks?

Keep up the training!

Thanks - its all about Team Koing mate!
I had the weight locked out overhead. Tried to stand up and got taken out I’d probably be dead if 110 had hit me. Did some block snatches today up to 80. Felt so weak overhead, twitching and losing it in front. Mainly me left shoulder.
Will work from the hang on both lifts and then do pulls or squats depending on the week.
Is because of the Olympics? Shock seeing you on telly plate loading. Thought ‘wait a second, f*** off it is him’ haha.
Will do mate, as I haven’t had a chance to get up to Woking I’ve been trying something a little different. Full lifts everyday (light or heavy depending on how I feel) then error correction, Squats or pulls alternating each week depending on where I feel weak. Loads of shoulder work.
Yeah took 2 weeks holiday to volunteer at the Olympics
See if the shoulder gives you any issues over your next few sessions. It is odd. Keep doing wide grip pull ups as I feel they help protect the shoulder for Snatch work.
