Good Mornings - Calves Imbalance

I am a drummer who recently started practicing regularly again. My right foot and calf get a lot of work (bass drum pedal work) and I believe my right calf is stronger than the left because of it.

Yesterday I was doing Good Mornings and my right calf started to hurt almost immediately. The right calf was being activated far more than the left.

I’m looking for some advice: Should I skip Good Mornings? Any alteration I should make? Accessory exercise to help? Other advice?

  1. Make sure they are the same length with proper stretching (one calf at a time)

  2. Make sure they are equaly strong with unilateral calf work.

  3. Learn the double bass.

I will try stretching them next time before I start, thanks for the suggestion.

As far as learning double-bass, I am - but what really kills the right foot is all the double-strokes (heel-toe technique).
