Gold Standard Exercise List - Link?

I agree with Kitosho, I think it was Henry Steinborn who did it first.

Here’s a 1964 article talking about it:

As for documentation, the picture above is the best I could find, from this page:

And about the old-time videos, here’s a thread where I found some clips of Eugene Sandow…from 1907. YouTube FTW!1!!1

its not exactly what u wanted but shows a pile of the old time exercises.

Does anyone know how to perform some of these less well known exercises? What is a continental jerk, continental press, or a two hands anyhow?

I’m assuming the continental refers to doing the clean in several steps, by pulling it to the gut/top of weight belt, and then to the chest and finally flipping it over at the top.

As far as I know that little maneuver is illegal in oly competitions, where only inceidental contact (the bump?) is allowed.

As a big, fat vanilla gorilla, continental is the only way I clean a barbell.

I defer to Arthur Saxon on the Continental Lifts -

The above pic is the mid point of a continental clean. After you get it to shoulder height, you’d do a “traditional” jerk or press.

For the Two Hands Anyhow:

Another classic Saxon strongman maneuver…the behind the back continental.
