Goblet Squat/Hold

are they the same exercise???

Goblet squat is the exercise. The Goblet hold has 2 meanings:

  1. It is the way you are holding the weight. Goblet Squat = Goblet Hold Squat. The goblet hold can also be used for lunges, etc.
  2. It is an added technique for the exercise. This is when you add isometric holds to the exercise. e.g. 10 full and then stop half way for 10 seconds before doing another 10 full.

Generally it is the 1st option.

If you want try the second option, here is an example set. Use very little weight and get ready for the burn.
10 Full
Up 1/5th hold for a count of 3, Then do 3 reps to the 1/5th position
Up 2/5th hold for a count of 3, Then do 3 reps to the 1/5th position
Up 3/5th hold for a count of 3, Then do 3 reps to the 1/5th position
Up 4/5th hold for a count of 3, Then do 3 reps to the 1/5th position
5 full reps.
You can add weight, longer holds and more reps as you progress.
