On Monday, Hansruedi (Hans Rudolf) Giger passed away shortly after sustaining injuries in a fall. He was 74 years old.
This man was the last great modern artist.
He was known primarily for his unique paintings, which were abstract or very physical.
Sometimes they were both at the same time.
Giger created enigmatic sculptures, covers for books, magazines, video games, movies, music albums.
Outworldy designs for mundane objects or what can only be described as out-of-place artefacts.
He even designed whole bars.
He made friends with guys like Dali and Leary.
Won an Oscar in the 80s.
The list of his artistic output and his accomplishments is astounding, bewildering, fascinating.
He is credited with inventing a whole asthetic, ‘Biomechanics’.
At one point he received an honourary Hell’s Angel membership.
Giger’s death will leave a dark void, something he might have found amusing.
