Getting Into Club Promoting

anyone ever done it? what are some basics i should know before venturing off. i saw an ad on craigslist they say theyll take people without experience too but id still like to have a general grasp on whats going on.

from what im guessing the job entails pimping out clubs via flyers, myspace spam and word of mouth.

thanks for your help in advance.

Can’t get a hardon anymore?

are you talking about the porn thing?

thats not nesecarily done, to say the least it hasnt even started. regardless im thinking my job as a server is in jeopardy and id rather be proactive about getting a new job. plus i think club promoting would be cool. i like to network and i think id be good at it.

theres plenty of other completely random off topic threads out there, but i want to keep this one on track, so contribute or fuck off.

Club promo is more of a hobby then something you make money from. Depends though on your contract with the club owner/ promo manager. Just check the details with the people at the club and find out what they are offering for your leg work. Most of the time its VIP entrance and some bottle service. Unless the club has money to burn.

But you don’t make any money unless your the Promo/Talent Manager for a night club. But it is also your ass on the line if they book someone famous or expensive and they bomb miserably. Also if your in this position you are expected to already have contacts for talent to come and play.

well thats one type of promo. the other is to basically be on street duty and pass out flyers or spam myspace in order to get people in.

you get paid based on how many people you get in the club, this paticular gig is $2 a head.

i just sent them an email w/ a couple photos (they wanted them) and hopefully ill hear back soon and see what the next step is.

i was just curious to see if anyone had any good tips.

i already know the basics, pass flyers out to everyone, stores, barbershops, bootleg spots, mall, throw out other promoters flyers, random hot chicks on the street, train, tattoo palors, gyms, the works.

The basics are know lots of dirtbags and losers and the ability to fill a club with them.

Did you show it to them?

I’ve been promoting for 3 years in Hollywood now. You wont make money till you own your own entertainment group. You won’t own your own entertainment group till you build the clients.

you wont meet the right clients till you bring up your population and the general managers and bar managers notice who you are. If you got any questions. Shoot em over. My promotion is DirtyMac entertainment

Dirtbags and losers (and their girlfriends) come in all colors.

Geez. I dont know how it is on the east coast, but over here in LA, it’s all about being social, piping chicks, and making connections. If it werent for promoting, i would never have gotten away with some of the shit that i would have gotten locked up for. Treat some cops like vips and it pays you back ten fold.

Sounds to me like the same class of characters.

I guess i have a totally different perspective because i’m on the business side. Me and my partners dont even show up till around 1 anyway, and thats just to do the tally, pick up money and talk to the management to see how we can improve the scene.

I have a buddy who does this, and he makes enough to live, but not much more than that. With no college education or work experience doing anything aside from partying all the time, I see no positive future for him.

On the other hand, he fucks a lot of hot drunk girls who think he’s cool because he’s kind of like a local celebrity or some shit. It’s also cool for me because I and anybody I’m with get in a lot of places VIP, but i digress. I’d look at this as a temporary thing if you decide to go for it.

This is a great template to follow, but it’s not easy to do. On top of that out of the handful of “bigtime” promoters I know there’s only two who aren’t complete douchebag dipshits who would never het laid if they weren’t promoters and didn’t cater to under age girls. Not accusing you of this, just pointing out what I know.

I’ve got a friend who did this for a while. He’s kind of a tool, but he’s alright. He did fuck a lot of girls, but he didnt make much money.

Seriously, convince one of your friends to be a club promoter, then mooch the VIP off of them. Dont go through the hassel yourself.

For the record, whenever some guido fuck came up to me on campus handing out flyers for “thursty thursdays” and “ladies night fridays” I wanted to kick him in the trachea.

none of my friends could be a club promoter, well theres a couple but theyre into other things right now.

i just like meeting new people, i like the whole club scene, i think this would be fun.

and yes handing out flyers isnt a career but you gotta start small in every career and work your way up.

i still havent gotten an email back, i did only send it yesterday afternoon but commmmmmmmme on.

I have a friend who did it in the Seattle area working for someone. The bottom line is that he was their little bitch. He didnt make a whole lot of money, and he would powertrip because he give the illusion to people that he is someone special.

Or that he flys in DJ so in so or whatever. You can fuck a lot of chicks, but mostly its a bunch of people who are full of themselves and full of shit. Then you meet people that are bad people- mostly for drugs. You might find yourself doing things that you normally wouldnt.

The guy I know used to tell people that he owned clubs in Vegas, which obviously he didnt. A Few name drops and the stupid girls are hooked… atleast until they realized he was a complete douchebag. Once everyone knew he was full of shit it was over.
