Getting Back Into Lifting

Hey everybody,

I havent seriously lifted weights for about a year now because of numerous reasons, mainly school and going through physical therapy for piriformis syndrome. I was wondering if anybody could recommend a good workout routine for getting back into lifting. Any help you guys could give me would be much appreciated.

thanks,

arh09

What did you do before taking a year off? What are your goals?

Without more info, it’s tough to help, but I’ll try…

Here’s a program that doesn’t get much attention here, but I always liked it for its simplicity. I see it as a great place for beginners to start:

Whatever you do choose, just stick with it for a while.

Like NTroych said, more info would help narrow things down a bit. Silly little details like your height, weight, and goals. Without knowing stuff like that, not much to suggest. Lifting 3-5 days a week, maybe some cardio 2-4 days a week, details to be determined.

I’m presuming your issues are all cleared up and you’re 100% ready for full, unrestricted training?

im about 6 foot 2 inches and 220 pounds right now but I unfortunately do not have a lean figure anymore I’ve gotten a little thick haha but I’ve just been doing push ups, sit ups, and running. I just recently got a prowler/power sled so I want to work that in some way. But the gym I joined is opening up in a few weeks and I want too go back into it with a solid routine to get back some muscle tone but more importantly the strength that I have lost which Im sure is a lot. Before I was doing 5/3/1 but I feel like it wouldnt be a good idea to jump right back into that right away

and yes I am 100% ready for full, unrestricted training

if I were you, I’d do Bill Starr’s 5/3/1 until I plateau, then use the best lifts to set up your first 5/3/1 cycle.
