I have heard (or read) that oil companies get very little of their overall profits from the gas they sell to drivers, and that any “coming together” to decrease our usage wouldn’t affect them enough to change their prices.

This is correct. “Oil” companies sell oil- not gas. There is a very big black box in the middle we’ll never know the truth behind, nor would we really want to.
Suffice it to say a nation-wide gas boycott is about as realistic as prohibition. You can’t just expect everyone to give up buying gas, even for a day. People have to get to work, grocery store, etc.
So that makes about 6,9$ per gallon. Norway beats that though, but I’m not sure if it’s that expensive to them “in comparison”. You see everything is fucking expensive in Norway and they get bigger paid too.
Here’s what I don’t understand - how can the price of gas change DAILY at the pumps? I mean, it’s not like the stations are filling their storage tanks daily, right?
Am I being stupid here - I would assume that when gas stations get a delivery they pay x per gallon for that entire delivery. Kinda like when you get a home oil delivery - your cost per gallon doesn’t change DAILY, does it? No, you pay x per gallon for the WHOLE FRICKIN’ tank.
I just saw a news blurb saying gas stock piles are on the rise in the U.S. And didn’t Exxon-Mobile just have record profits AGAIN?? Why doesn’t the BUSH-whacker step in and do something about this crisis…jesus christ.
I’m so sick of this shit…
Just paid $3.03/gal to fill my F-150 ($65.00 thank you very little). Guess it’s not so bad as some of you other folk…damn…
The thing is you cant just buy gas from one company and not the other and expect prices to drop. Gas companies sell gas to eachother so that would not work. The only way to beat the system is to get a vehicle that gets better gas mileage, or come up with an alternate form of fuel other than gasoline. Otherwise we can all just bend over and take it up the ass because there aint much we can do!
$3.07 is the cheapest right now in my area, a Hess station. It was still under $3 untill the begining of this week (it WAS $2.88), no matter waht time of day, people are lined up for gas at that Hess… its insane!

$3.59 as of today. Its rediculous but what can we do about it?
We can come together as a nation damn it. Nobody in the country buy gas from Exxon-Mobile. Facing a country wide boycott, how quickly do you think Exxon lowers their prices?
Next, everybody switches to Exxon, thereby forcing the other major gas players to lower prices. Bingo!
I’ll be the national spokesman for what gas the country should be using at any given time. All people have to do is listen. We’ll be back to the $1/gallon days in a matter of months.[/quote]
Horsehockey. States make way more in tax from gasoline per gallon than oil companies make. They like this situation — their tax revenues go up and they can scapegoat Big OIL.

Environmentalists prevented the building of new and more modern refineries. Well, at least the snail darters and frogs are happy…
Here in Jacksonville, Florida its about $3.08 per gallon. It cost $94.00 to fill up my van, which I can drive back and forth to work 6 times. I drive approx. 60 miles per day.
I need to move closer to work.
I do not see the prices coming back down.
And my health insurance is going up June 1st. I will be paying $650.00 per month for family coverage.

fuck that. oil companies would go broke and bankrupt and we would be at the complete mercy of OPEC nations at that point.
you might as well stick a fork in us and call us done.

I siphon it out of parked cars. Cheap as hell, plus you get a little buzz from the gas after a half dozen mouthfuls (hic).

Good reason to get a locking gas cap or never get out of your car when driving through Jersey.

And if you do get out of your car, stay near by with an eye out and a baseball bat ready to take out a creepy old man.
Holy shit. Its been 3.60 around me. About 45 bucks to fill up a tank and I usually get about 225 miles per tank, but I do 98% of my driving in the city.
I’m going to start riding my bike to work like I used to.
