Game of Thrones Season 3

#1

I know there is already a thread about this but it is absolutely awful and full of spoilers so I'm starting a new one since the season starts in one month.

The official trailer for season 3 is awesome. I got goose bumps.

I've been watching season 2 on demand this week and have gotten really excited for season 3 to start.

I'm excited to see where they go with this season and how they break up the book since book 3 will be two seasons.

Please no spoilers or potential spoilers without a heads up.

Thoughts?

I find the show not as enjoyable seeing how i read the books first. To me the mystery and shock of plot twists and deaths is what made the story so great. Seeing it played live and with just excessive nudity makes it fun but not something i can really get into. Anyone else who feels this too?

Let me rephrase that from excessive to unnecessary and out of context nudity.

I see what you’re saying about the nudity but that’s just a given with premium channel shows. Sex sells.

I enjoy the show even though I’ve read all the books as well. The shocking plot twists/deaths won’t be as shocking (obvious) but no Movie or TV Show will be as good as the book.

Yeah good points. I gotta say though, as great 1-3 were, i made it halfway through the 4rth and that was it. Not motivation to finish it.

I thought 4 was kinda lame. I didn’t like introduction of all these new characters and the lack of tangible story progression.

I powered through and book 5 was good. It has some pretty sick parts too.

I’ll have to see during this season. I watched seasons 1 and 2 without reading anything, and after season 2 I read books 1-5, finished #5 just recently. I have a feeling you may be right though… though so much happens in book 3, it’s nice to see it on screen in a fast-paced way, and also to remind you of plot twists that you hadn’t thought of in awhile.

I also agree on the excessive nudity, it really wasn’t like that in the books but I guess yeah, sex sells. It gets a bit awkward when watching with relatives for example… I remember one episode in season 2 where I swear there were two back-to-back softcore porn scenes.

I’m psyched either way. Winter is coming… BITCH!

Yeah book 4 sucked… OK it didn’t suck, but the pace was so much slower than books 1-3. Never thought of putting it down though.

Beginning of book 5 was kinda meh, but once book 5 catches up to book 4 in the present time, it gets really really good.

I really like the story about the blue-haired kid and “Griff” if you get my meaning… so intriguing… have no idea who will actually sit on the iron throne in the end.

AFFC had no Tyrion, Jon Snow, or Daenerys. Those are my favorite characters (as well as Arya), so it made it harder to read. The chapters with Sam, the Dornish, and the Ironborn were the hardest ones to give a fuck about, but they were needed to set up ADWD. Jaime’s chapters were pretty good. I like the direction his character started to take here. He is actually becoming one of my favorites now.

I really like Jamir now.

I liked the chapters with Sam actually. He has become one of my favorite characters for some reason? Like the lovable idiot boy lol

Great idea.

Trailer looks awesome. Can’t wait to see it and can’t wait for the next book.

The characters introduced in AFFC were needed to move the plot along, imo, in the upcoming book. I think the ironborn were really interested once I read through the series the second time.

Sam, to me, has a view of himself as being a coward but his actions contradict his self-view and I think that’s one of the reasons I like him so much. He’s grown quite a bit as a character.

The same with Jamie … he’s grown into a different character from who he was in the first book. I like how he’s hell-bent on restoring his honor. All the knights he idolized as a boy were all honorable (in his eyes) and he’s strayed so far from that though his life … it’s forced him to rethink his entire approach to himself (that and the fact he lost something very dear to him).

That trailer you posted looked awesome btw … can’t wait to watch

Yes I think my own life parallels Jaime’s in a lot of ways. Having this vision of what you want to be as a young man, then gradually straying from that path without even realizing it until you look up and find you’re miles from where you wanted to be, but pride won’t let you admit that what you really are is anything but completely fucking awesome, so you keep at it for a few years. Eventually something knocks you down and breaks you, and you have to face what you’ve become with no false facade of hubris to shield you from the truth.

Now in the books he is roughly where I am too, and we both seem to be realizing the same things and taking the same steps to get ourselves back on track. Of course, my life is way more boring than that of Jaime Fucking Lannister. But at least I never fucked any blood relatives.

^^good insight. Never really thought of it like that but it makes sense.

He really has gone from a total douche into one of the best characters.

Any idea when the next book is coming out? 2020?

#19

I haven’t read any of the books but I am totally stoked for season three.

*** And I just skimmed the above posts because it seems like they were full of book-reading spoilers so I just sang lalalalalalalala and covered my ears.

#20

EDIT: potential spoiler if you haven’t seen the first season or read the first book lol

^^there weren’t any real spoilers in there… Quite a bit of insight but nothing like screaming “Ned Stark dies in season 1!!!” Lol

That literally blew my mind. I hadn’t read any of the books before watching season 1 and when that happened I was like “whaaaaaaaaaa!?!?!?!?” Hahaha
