Function Over Form: TheTexican's 5/3/1 Log

FUUUUCKKKKKKKK!!! My long ass post didn’t save!!! FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK SHIT BALLS TAINT!!!

I trained today. Kicked five asses and took three names. Woulda been more but I was too busy SFW!

I’ll post it later. I need to eat and shower.

DID you purchase the 5/3/1 for powerlifting book?? Or do you just know the template? I am really thinking about buying the book myself, I was wondering if it would be worth it.

How long have you been in Africa for?

I have the book. I’ve gotten all the books beside the newest version of the original 5/3/1. I think you should get it. It has some good info in it and it’s a WHOLE lot easier to get all the little answers to the those gee whiz questions when you have the book to refer to. He also included 100 entries from the EliteFTS Q&A about 5/3/1 at the end. Get it!

I have been here for about 4 months now. LAAAMMMEEEE!!! lol Can’t wait to get back to North America!

why not?

Hey I might just be being lazy and not re reading… but whens your lifting comp?

People use the word “legit”, which transformed into “legitly”. The proper use of the full version of “legit” is “legitimate”. So, you would say, “These fuck-tards are LEGITIMATELY fucking ignorant for using the word LEGITLY.”

April 7th if I can get back to the States in enough time and don’t have to work for some gosh-awful reason.

EDIT
The “word” shows the decline of the level of public education and the increasing amount of retardation we allow in society. The fact some people don’t understand where “legit” came from and intenionally use “legitly” when trying to sound smart is amusing to me. I wouldn’t say I have a superior education to most people. I’m 28 and haven’t finished my BS or my associate’s for that matter. What I do have, is the ability and enough motivation to seek out answers for myself. If someone said a word I commonly used wasn’t actually a word, I would research (see: GOOGLE) and figure out why it wasn’t and how I’d made myself look like a 'tard. I don’t understand most people. I mean it. I’m seriously confounded when I have any sort of intelligent discussion with about 85% of people in the world.

Just felt like ranting.

My log is turning into social hour… looks like I need to post some actual training.

Work from earlier today:

Walk to gym/warm up/take fat kid’s lunch monies.

(I was helping a kid I work with during my press warm up. He was holding up the rack so I decided to at least let him know he was squatting all kindsa fucked up. He fixed himself.)

Press:

warm upxblah blah. light

135x3

145x3

155x9 (stopped about 3 reps short)

145x3 sets of 5

Bench:

mini warm up 135, 185 for a few reps a piece

225x5 sets of 3 with pause and as forceful a concentric as possible

Chins+35lbs:

21 total reps between sets. Shoulda done more, dudes were taking up the pull up bar.

That’s it.

Notes:

I re-read the 53/1 for Powerlifting book again and wrote down my whole next training block while at work, hopefully this saves me at least 4 minutes every training session. I didn’t remember the order Jim had each session. As you can see, my main lift order will be a little different than I previously stated.

Today…the DELOAD was offically over!!! HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! Gahh, I hate deloads, especially when I know a meet is coming up. I’m looking forward to these heavy singles and getting some “heavier” loads in my hands.

I’m almost out of that crappy protein and my MD hasn’t shown up yet. Come on mail!!! I need my oh SOOOOO delicious vanilla MD. And Alpha Male. I envision myself morphing somewhat into the baboon (is it a baboon?) on the label and wrecking some serious shit in the gym. lol

That’s it for now. Deadlift in the morning and lots of eating before then. Not sure YET what I want to do for conditioning. Probably just cruise my treadmill sprints with a walk after. We’ll see.

PR!!!

PR!!!

PR!!!

TRAINING:

Walk/warm-up

Box Jumps (BJ’s!!) 6 sets of 3 between DL warm ups

DL:

warm-ups x not as many as usual cuz I was’a jumpin!

305x3 (SMOKED IT)

345x3 (hit my knee on rep 2, recovered like a BOSS!)

390x3 (KILLED IT)

425x1 (easiest rep over 405 ever in the history of reps)

465x1 ( 10lb all time 1RM PR! More on this later…)

NECK:

45x3 sets of 15

SQUAT:

warm-ups

345x5 sets of 3

CONDITIONING:

Treadmill sprints 15 sec work/45 sec active rest (hammer curls with 45x10) x 10 total sprints (100 total curls)

NOTES:

The DL PR is all fine and well, but I know there’s more to come. I haven’t been pushing my training maxes for a while because of this, that, and the other thing going on in my life. I have 475 in two weeks and I’m expecting to crush it like I did 465 today. I think I’m going to skip 495 and 500 and just attempt 505 in April. That’s how BOSSES do things round these parts!!

Grip wasn’t an issue with DL and I held the top for 10 good shrugs; expect soreness tomorrow! CHEAAA!!!

Squats felt fast and “SPRINGY”. My form is really getting dialed in from the increase in frequency over the past few months. My knees are always a little tender, but as long as I remember to take my Cirumin and Aleve, it isn’t really an issue. I’m looking forward to putting on the wraps in a few days. EFS really needs to get some Metal All Blacks in soon. My wraps are old and I really want those Blacks. Gonna get the Black wrist wraps as well.

The small quad tweak from my deload week is resolved. All I did was some spot massages and ice during work and just tried to stay active. I didn’t feel any residual effects today. NICE!

My MD hasn’t arrived as of today, so I had to get some Syntha-6 until it arrives. That ON HydroBuilder made me wanna puke every time I opened it. I’m pushing my two 40g shakes up to 60g x 2 a day to get a little more protein to see if it has a positive effect. Why not? I’m going to have a ton to drink in the next month, any way.

All in all, GREAT two days of lifting. Now, two days off (from weights) during my next 3 days of work. I work a 3 on/1 off schedule here with 13 or so hour shifts. I try to just get my rest after the first and second days and hit the gym after my last day and during my day off. Works out fairly well and I don’t miss as much sleep as some of the guys who train here every day.

That’s it for now. Video for your enjoyment.

I really like the soulful singing between breakdowns and screams. See: Jonny Craig.

Makes the heavy parts heavier and the lyrics help me focus a lot of the shitty feelings from the past 4 or 5 months into the bar. Gotta get that therapy somehow, don’t we?

Nope, sorry… Even calling them BJs doesn’t make me willing to do box jumps. Way to bring out the big guns though… Valiant effort.

Great work on the PR.

Maybe legitly is a legitimate slang word.

I tried! :frowning:

That would be ok if the individuals using the word KNEW it was slang. However, I’ve had about 5 people say they didn’t know when I’d pointed out it wasn’t an ACTUAL (in the dictionary) word. They thought legit came from legitly. I have little patience for such tomfoolery!

Ah. So its like “irregardless”.

Infuriating.

PM?

Yes, just like that. I’m majoring in Exercise/Sport Science and English. I have to turn in written products for work (reports, etc.) and I have my grammar corrected by fools who have no IDEA what proper grammar looks like. But I have to listen, because they outrank me. INFURIATING!

WOW! Awesome job on the PR! Feels good, don’t it??

You’re going to be in post workout high glory for a while, me thinks.

I was thinking that maybe I will do 5/3/1 regular version until my numbers start really stalling and until I get stronger and THEN look into the 5/3/1 for powerlifting version to switch things up. Gotta ride this stuff out and milk it for all it’s worth, yaahknow?

(Oh man, Spock’s here… How’s my hair?? Anything in my teeth?? Huh? What’s that? Oh, we’re good?? Whewww!!)

Oh, hey there Spock. Didn’t even notice you walk in… Whassup!!!

Yeah, everytime I have a squat/DL PR, I usually don’t sleep for a night. I love seeing progress in action!

The 5/3/1 for PL isn’t really all that different besides the meet prep cycles, honestly. The book goes into a few new concepts, but I honestly just stick to a “base” 5/3/1 for majority of the year. I do like the added singles, though. Feels good to handle some bigger weights.

It was good seeing ya… I got a few things to tend to but let’s go grab some coffee or maybe some heavy pressing (wink, wink) sometime. Talk to ya later, cutie pie.

(How was that? Did I play it cool? Man, I was nervous. Is she looking over here??)

A little bit of food porn for ya guys and gals.

k

LOL

It’s funny cause I usually sleep like a baby the night after a PR, BUTT the night before I am hoping/wondering if I will set a PR I sleep like SHIT. Too excited to sleep and can’t stop picturing myself doing the exercise over and over.

Ah well.

I know you’re in Africa for work and whatnot, but did you get to go on a safari at all? Or have you seen any hippo’s? Africa gets to have the coolest animals ever. Here in edmonton all we have is… uhh, ya canadians get moose and bison really, that’s all.

:frowning:

I haven’t seen any hippos, but I have swam with whale sharks. That’s about all I’ve had time for. It was pretty awesome!! Things are HUUUGE!! There are wild dogs that roam around by my work areas. Does that count as African animals? You should come on down to TX. We got all kinds of fun creepies and crawlies. I’ll show you armadillos!!

Yeah, I was up a total of 33 hours before I got to bed after that workout. :frowning: Woulda been earlier but I had to work all night.

Pic of Whale Shark.

SLAP HANDS

NOTES:

So far, the 40g of added protein has helped me stay a little more full between waking up and getting to my first meal. This is when I usually eat whatever delicious junk food we have in the tent. This is a good thing. A mild increase in flatulance (sp?) hasn’t REALLY been noticeable. So far, so good. Not feeling super sore from the DL and press sessions the other couple days. Ready to get in there for bench day tomorrow. EXCITED!

It’s already V-day here and I’m lacking in a Valentine. Maybe I’ll pick some poor East African child to shower with candy? Who knows.

100 band pull aparts, good mornings, pushdowns, and curls with an EFS monster-mini for fun followed by some stretching (LIKE A LION!).

Later taters!

(back to creepin people’s logs)
