Eh… what?
Gear isn’t to get over a plateau. It’s an integral part of the sport. Maybe football players shouldn’t wear pads until they’re pro’s so their body can toughen up?
Poetry, beautiful poetry Hanley
There are so many feds from raw to one-ply to two ply. There’s something for everyone.
When someone is ready for something they are ready for it. So while the kid might be 20 clearly he’s ready.
I don’t mean any offense with this, but comparing pads in football to gear in PL’ing makes no sense. Pads are an integral part of football, and have always been there. Gear is a choice, and is not required to participate in PL’ing.I could honestly give a shit if someone uses gear or not, but all geared lifts should be marked as such. In any event, the numbers put up this past weekend [equipped or not] are bananas. There are some inhumanly strong people walking around out there, and it’s really cool to hear about/see what the motivated freaks can do.
Your comment about pads in football is not completely true. I can’t say for sure if they have always been a part of football, but if you compare the pads of today against the pads of 50 years ago (or more), you’ll see that the pads of today are not integral to the game. You have a point that pads and PL gear may not be a perfect comparison, but it was just an analogy.
Also as for the comment about geared lifts should be marked as such, well they are since they take place within a federation and each federation has its own rules describing the type of gear allowed.
However, we do agree that those lifts are impressive.
Pads have always been there, they’ve just evolved to be more beneficial to the athlete. Also, most players wear as few pads as possiblt to be faster/quicker.[/quote]
And gear has always (well for the last 30 years) been in powerlifting. We’ve all heard the stories of guys wrapping tennis balls behind their knees and using bed sheets as make shift suits.
It IS an integral part of thus sport, and thus must be used if you want to be competitive at any age (obviously a base of raw strength is needed but I’d say most guys get there in 3 years).
