Not past a certain point.
If front squatting with a wide stance works for you, then just do it. I’m so tired of the “oh you HAVE to do this and this and blah blah”. Just do what works for you. If it doesn’t work…change it until it does. If it keeps on working, keep on doing it.

Agreed.
wow this got of topic quickly. RDS pushing your knees out is a good, and wide is fine as well, as long as it works and least painful to you. And not everything has to be performed the same way. Example I box squat super wide, I squat about 8" less wide and front squat narrow shoulder width.
All Im saying is make it work for you and your needs.
Off the topic I would like to see a video of anybody front squatting 400+ leaning forward, screw it make it 315lbs, lol

I could probably sit back further. I suspect my ankle mobility sucks.
there’s no pain with the wide stance, I’m just not sure if that’ll set me up for problems further down the road…
Hopefully he doesn’t mean sit back more on the front squat, because that’s a very bad idea.
Enlighten me if I misunderstood, though.
You are supposed to sit back in the front squat.
Check oly section if you haven’t done that.
My advice would be to start by elevating the heels in a relatively narrow stance. Watch the oly lifters on YouTube, all the good ones are pretty narrow stance and all have oly shoes with an elevated heel. If you should copy anybody in fs it should be them.
I’ve been experimenting with stance width for front squat of late and find as well that a narrowish stance (perhaps 75% of my standard squat width) gives me the best drive out of the hole. Any ideas why this might be?

Just follow anatomically safe lifting and the actual exercises don’t matter. You have to stress all points of the body, with different loads and load angles, everywhere. Sitting back for front squats murders my back, in a good way. This may not pertain to the OP’s issues, but I don’t want him being stuck to certain things.
OP, try whatever works.
