Lately I’ve become a big fan of paella. I’m currently dieting and I came to the realization that it’s pretty much the perfect meal for me right now.
I get to eat something tasty, very tasty, that has a lot of protein, little fat, moderate carbs, some veggies, and satisfies the cravings for seafood that I tend to get at times. I get the frozen one which is super quick to make.
This is what I do: I eat half a bag as a meal, and I throw in some kind of additional fish. Today it was salmon. It can be anything, and should I need to lower the fats a little bit more, I can use tuna, shrimp, or something low fat.
There is definitely a lot of fish compared to how much rice there is, but that’s okay. It’s still diet food.
The meal you see in the picture has 40 grams of carbs, 25 of fat (pretty much all coming from the salmon and not paella itself, so they can be easily lowered by just picking a leaner fish), and around 50 grams of protein.
It might not be suitable for absolute low carb diets, but that’s not what I’m doing (I hang at around 150 g of carbs per day), but it works perfectly for me and I love it.
I had a squid ink risotto about 5 years ago in Podgorica (capital of Montenegro) and got violently ill, which was made significantly worse by the fact that I had to travel to Belgrade by train the day after. Never again.
After months of practice during quarintine, finally made red braised pork that’s “restaurant quality” according to my mom @alex44938@dt79@whang@punnyguy
Little bro hates anise so couldn’t add any
Also, rock sugar makes a world of difference. I’d been using brown sugar but my parents went to the Chinese market and brought back proper rock sugar
Red braised pork is a dish that offends literally every diet trend
Too much fat for low fat
Too much sugar for low carb
Too much fat and carbs to be “macro friendly”
It’s pork so not vegan, vegetarian, halal, or kosher friendly
There’s copious amounts of sugar and soy sauce so the carnivores won’t touch it
And it’s Chinese so not even standard American diet friendly
And I still don’t get why we have the longest life spans. We should all be dead by our early 40s lol.
EDIT:
Even cigarettes in China are so fucking cheap my friends in their 40s still smoke like chimneys. The ones from the West with the extra filters and shit to make them less toxic are actually the most expensive so no one smokes them.
Even more ridiculous is Hunan cuisine- their philosophy is basically to drown everything in oil, salt and pickled chopped peppers (剁辣椒)
They think PICKLED radish on its own is tasteless
Also, the “reduced sodium “ version of 剁辣椒has 5000mg of sodium/100g
