Flex Bands and Box Squats


Just a quick question, how much of these should you feel in your lower back? I did a 4 week cycle with light bands on a parallel box in 5X5 routine.
I could always feel it for 2 or 3 days after. I read Tate's Accomadating Resistance piece and he mentions this targets lower back, I just want to make sure I am not fucking these up. And I want to start another 4 week cycle. The strength gains are awesome.


It is normal to feel some tension in your lower back, but more of it should be in your hams and glutes. If you are finding yourself leaning over too much when you are box squatting, then you needto bring up your lower back strength before you increase the weight on the squats.


I wouldnt use bands in a 5x5 routine. I would only use bands for the bo squat in a dynamic set up. Using between 50-70% of your 1RM.


Just curious on why you wouldn't use them? I have seen some great gains in my 1 rep max on all the core lifts. I am not PL, just lift to look decent and as a hobby. Thanks...
