I live at a ymca, we get free high speed internet in our rooms, but for some reason I cannot seem to get any of my p2p or torrent programs to "connect," this was not a problem at my before living here. WOuld this indicate that they have some sort of firewall on the network or some wierd router settings? WOuld there be a way around this?

it's common practice to block the ports these programs use. Since they are riskly and could lead to virus infections and huge bandwidth consumtion.

If you want to know for sure if a port is blocked, go to http://www.grc.com , click on the Shields Up logo, scroll down the page and click on the Shields Up link, and then click the Proceed button. Type in the port in question and click "User Specified Custom Port Probe." If the result says "Stealth", the port is blocked.
