Farmers Walk with Dumbells

I just incorported farmers walks into my program. Here’s the thing though. I put on a couple of 45s on each dumbell. However, the weights rest on the side of my body and I think that sort of reduces the weight on my arms.

Do you think it matters? Do other people have this problem? Are dumbells inappropriate for this exercise?

If you are training for strongman, I would definitely use real farmers as dumbbells aren’t the same. If you are just training for fun, then fuck it use DB’s.

Well, right now, I am not training for strongman. However, as I indicated above, there are some problems with dumbbells. Where is the cheapest place to get a pair (of Farmers)? The ones on EFT are rather expensive.

the econo farmer’s bars are a lot cheaper (about $200) compared to the regular thing (about $500)

as for makeshift bars, i have seen one where you load up a curl bar and carry it using one of those w-shaped rowing attatchments.

A pair of those cheap triceps bars work as well (you know, the elliptically-shaped bars with crossbars that you can hold for hammer curls or triceps extensions). If you hold the outer part of the ring, the weight stays fairly balanced and the plates are far enough away that you can have a decent stride length without banging up your knees.

How about a trap / shrug bar?

Interesting suggestion, especially since I already have one of those

Super! Yes, I see that they are still at $90. I just wrote to him, asking for information about ordering.

Thanks for the great lead.

Check these out:

They have two different size handles (three if you’ve got enough grip to grab the main bar) and includes collars.

That is what I used in the heat and humidity on Sat after mowing.
Let’s just say, falling asleep was not a problem.

You can carry it several different ways - by the handles, one- handed holding the hex, and with a lot of difficulty with the weights fore and aft of your body instead of to your sides.
